Hello Tracy. The kitchen is by Hacker and the colour is 'aquamarine'. It is very similar to the Farrow and Ball colour Inchyra blue.

The dutch brand Flexa has a new color named Energizing Ireland (first picture, on ceiling). In their last year series there's also Early Dew (wall in second picture). But Farrow&Ball is quite popular over here too in rustic/industrial/vintage designs (saturated and matted). I would start with her bedroom, that's the area she wil rest. Keep it neutral and and peaceful. Make the curtains cheerful that will be the first thing she'll see when she wakes up. A four feet bed will be comfortable for her and find out how much it will cost to raise the bed ...at a certain age it is more comfortable to get in and out of. Table lamps which by a touch will light up a big alarm clock... Older people always want to know the time! Two bedside tables. Soft carpet for her feet and a big collage on the wall with photos of her family. I would get rid of the wardrobe is is so huge and if you look on your local ebay and put you postcode in you will be able to get a good bargain. Look for a comfy chair too with a floorlight for reading. If space a nice little table (local ebay) will make it complete. Your mum prefers her wall painted but again a roll of cheerful wallpaper for one wall in her bedroom will make it special for her. Try to get rid of all the clutter like those two shopping trolleys perhaps in a cupboard in the hall? I have done a lot of houses up on a shoestring and it is a challenge but can be so satisfying. One thing I have learnt ....ALWAYS finish one room completely before going on to the next room. It helps when you feel a bit down about the project and one look in the finished room gives one a big boost to continue!!! Good Luck.

I have to say my whole garden is finally looking good at the moment! We had to have a trench dug across it last year for the new drains for the kitchen, plus we've had trees taken down, new patios laid, beds made and a whole bed of ground elder laid fallow and covered for over a year. Consequently, since Easter, we have been "doing" the garden - well I say we, it's actually the OH doing all the grunt work, digging, planting and re-planting (oops), with me in a purely managerial capacity and doing a bit of dead heading. There are virtually no paint colours that are true 'grey' as in made from pure black and pure white. They are all a 'colour'. Paint companies could help us out by naming the 'mother hue' - for example, Downpipe would be blue, but if they were to do that, we would not buy millions of test pots and that would mean they would make a lot less profit. Additionally, they could simply explain what hue the various colours belong to and describe how the colour may change in different lights. If only companies such as Farrow and Ball had on their website a boxy North, South, East and West facing room which showed their colours at different times of day we would all be so well informed. Of course, they pay lip service to this by making little suggestions, but in reality they could go much further. In addition I do wonder if we are often seduced by a beautiful room with lovely period details than the actual 'colour'. I sound cynical because I am.
