Any advice on what to do with this garden space?
Comments (14)The only sensible and reliable way of keeping a dog in, is to have a fence - and self closing gate! Any landscaping the builder does should fit with your long term plans - no point in having to dig up and re-do things. The areas immediately adjacent to the house should really be the highest quality/best detailed/most expensive elements, as these are the most frequently used areas: they certainly shouldn't comprise just a few low-cost paving slabs, as offered by so many builders! A significant proportion of our work is for self-builders and, whilst the garden budget often ends up being used as contingency for the house, I always encourage having a concept plan in-hand, even before work starts on the house. That way you can hopefully avoid future problems like soak-aways where you want to plant a tree, and shallow drains under your parking area etc., and even if most landscaping is delayed until after you have moved in, and perhaps done in stages, at least you can be confident of a coherent end result (albeit a few years down the road). Ideally you would have the builder do ground works like drainage, soak-aways, and moving soil around the site. One aspect that's worth doing early is tree planting - trees planted as "whips" when building work starts will have a chance to become established by the time you move in....See MoreBest piece of advice for working at home?
Comments (48)The most important thing is that I did this, talked to all my loved ones and concluded an agreement that working hours are working hours. I need to be focused and I didn't want to be distracted from my main goal. Therefore, while I am at my workplace, I can be sure that I will not be disturbed. The second point is the separation of duties. I have my own business and I hired an accounting service so that they take over the formal part of working with documents. It all works online, you can click on their website. So far I do not need a secretary but if I expand my business, I will definitely hire such a person (also on a remote basis)...See MoreBedroom decorating scheme advice
Comments (73)I think the lighter fern fabric for the curtains would look very nice. And then linen, hessian, grey with pink warm undertone for the walls and ceiling, that the curtains almost blend in, and dark tone black shade for the window frame and the door. You can paint the nightstands black (if I can convince you to add a crystal knob. Alix’s pax handle looks really nice on black) and black low bookshelf in the corner where you have your shelves now, but window height and tour prints above it . Are you keeping that desk in your bedroom or is it for your daughter’s room? You are keeping it, put it under the window with your table mirror on it. Hessian fabric on the wardrobe door and paint the ridges black also. I would go with hessian fabric outside of the glass, it not entirely sure how difficult it is to do, tbh. if You put the fabric inside the glass you’d need to use a transparent glue. You are very good with diy, should be able to do it. If the fabric goes outside of the glass it will have a very different effect from the one if it goes under the glass....See MoreNo idea where to start with the landscaping! Any advice?
