You certainly have the height to carry such a look but I wonder whether you would lose the definition in some of that beautiful cornice? I like ceilings painted the same colour as the walls. I considered one shade lighter (ie ammonite) to have a slight contrast. You could also paint the cornice white and the ceiling cornforth but I think that is a more traditional look. On balance my favourite would be the cornice and ceiling painted one shade lighter. What have you done in the rest of the house with the ceilings?

i live in scotland too like JML garden room & tiredoldwoman. love mine. it's purple & velvety fuzzy like embzop's. you can stick in the washing machine & it takes no time to dry outdoors or in. i also have a light cotton kimono style house coat for in the summer. as i sleep in the buff it's nice to just shove that on when i get up & am wandering down to get breakfast. ps. i put it on after my shower but i dry myself with a towel beforehand.

There are a few different options depending on taste and budget. Firstly, go down the DIY option with two ideas:- Louvre doors ( or any other solid wood & lightweight doors ) bought from a DIY shop made of actual wood, so that you can stain them whatever colour you like and add whatever handles you like to match in with your existing furniture. You need to look at how the hinges are attached on the existing wardrobes to see what can be attached to the louvre doors. You may be able to change the hinges to suit depending on the outside depth of the carcass as it's almost certainly MDF / Chipboard. Staining them dark to match your furniture and putting on say Glass knobs or Porcelain knobs to tie in with your bedding is a good idea See Wickes range here, you can also get more solid looking doors depending on taste If you don't want to stain them dark then another good idea is to paint them the same colour as the walls to make them blend in, or a contrasting pale colour to match the bed linen. The other route for Diy is to just paint the doors, same colour rules apply as above. Same colour as walls to blend in or contrasting to match bedding. I'm not so keen on this idea as it's the design of the doors that will not fit so well with your room. The second option is to change the doors for something off the peg in your chosen colour and material. There are a few firms around that offer this service such as Wardrobe doors Hope this gives you some inspiration !

Might be worth contacting velux as there's something very wrong. The conservation velux windows they offer are either pivot or top hung, maybe they offered side hung in the past but the black inner doesn't look like their finish. http://www.velux.co.uk/products/roof-windows/conservation-roof-windows Are you sure it's velux, there are other companies such as Fakro that also offer them, I think they do side hung ones for habitable rooms too. Good luck, let me know how you get on as I'm about to spec 13 veluxes for our new house...
