Our sinks were built in, but their cabinets were low and bending hurt my back. I determined the cabinets could be raised by adding a horizontal board just above the place at bottom that is indented for your toes. It added about five inches, bringing the counters up to the height of our kitchen counters. The board was stained to match the cabinet and is right under where the cabinet doors open. The line of the board is hidden by a length of wood trim. This raising up did require adding pipe to the water lines under the sinks to fill the pipe gap; moving the very large mirrors (no breaks or chips!) upward and moving the lighting above the mirrors up, as well. Took one day of work by carpenter and helper. Well worth the cost.

I wouldn't waste time repainting it; I like it and, as so many others have said, think it looks flat because it's not jazzed up with accessories. I'd use bolder towels - single colour in contrasting colours - and have bigger towels out. Put something interesting on the walls - ceramic works well in a bathroom and, again, bold colours. Others have suggested plants which I agree with. It just need accents. The floor colour ties in with the surface so I think you could get away with keeping it - you can draw the eye away from it with a dramatic bathmat or rug or similar - it's got to be easy clean/wash as it will get a lot of use. It needs tweaking, not major change.

I like Carolina's idea. I personally might add a shelf and then you're less limited. However you may be able to find a driftwood sculpture or an apothecary bottle . You can fill it with natural sponges or pot pourri made a bit of a comeback and there are some interesting bits around. I prefer the old fashioned apothecary bottles but think it will be hard to find one in the right size with a wide opening to put things in. Or maybe just a tall reed diffuser
