Composite sink vs stainless steel

We are looking to renovate our kitchen and replace it with grey units, dark blue island and quartz counter tops in grey/white . Dilemma is with regard to the sink- I really like the look of a grey composite sink but am concerned with regard to maintenance as we live in a hard water area. Any advice on sink material?

I can only comment on Corian as my friend has had worktops and sink in it. She doesn’t like it all as it gets easily watermarked, even when the water is wiped immediately and it scratches easily. The scratch marks can be sanded, but this has to be done by a professional - difficult to find someone! I have a ceramic sink which I love - it’s easy to clean, and no I’ve never broken any crockery in it! Ceramic does have a more country vibe though.

We opted for a Franke double stainless sink, you can't beat stainless for ease, scrubability and resiliance.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but I remember reading this on the American site couple of years ago - most people commenting on how much they hate corners sinks... it may not be the case with you, but I thought you may want to have a read. https://www.houzz.com/magazine/is-a-kitchen-corner-sink-right-for-you-stsetivw-vs~3668307 Also, as you can see, some use 'normal' sinks, just placed in an angle. No idea if you looked at the sites below in your searches, but that's what I got so far. Hi. Here's a pic of how it would look (similar anyway!). It depends if you want the sink to stand out or for the worktop to look seamless. As you're going for a shaker have you consider a butler or Belfast sink?

If the plug leaks it probably needs a bead of silicon to bed the metal flange to the ceramic waste outlet, the foam gaskets you get with the wastes are pretty useless for ceramic sinks and best to use silicon when metal meets porcelain to make a seal. If you do decide to change the sink you may need to smash it out if its been fitted properly on a bed of silicon and if its a laminate worktop there's a chance that it may damage the laminate when your removing it. As said above i'd try cleaning it with bar keepers friend first as ceramic sinks are pretty robust and hard to scratch.

I was also going to ask Colourhappy why her sister has removed her hot tap? We’ve now had our Quooker tap for over 10 years, and I wouldn’t be without it! The water from the Quooker is pressurised and 100 degrees, but it’s also quite aerated, so if it was turned on and hit the sink below, it’s not an intense flow. (Not sure if I’m explaining that very well!. Also - not sure why you would turn the boiling tap on without anything underneath??? My sink takes more heat when I’m draining pans at meal times - that’s a more intense / concentrated heat.

I’d also recommend a ceramic sink if you haven’t yet considered it. Mine is surprisingly tough (Rangemaster), modern & not scratched in the 2 1/2 years its been fitted. We have white quartz worktops. I spent ages researching sinks & didn’t find many who recommended the composite sinks.

Whichever you choose just don’t use a washing up bowl. It’s the bowl that causes the scratches in the sink.
