Comments (9)JC We have around 26 GU10 down lights in our open plan kitchen diner. We have just swapped the kitchen area over to LEDs in new white coloured down lights which look a little less obtrusive. We went for 3000k (warm white - but not too yellow) 6w LED bulbs in those. We got both the down lights and bulbs from https://ledlam.co.uk/. We chose their bulbs because along with being a good price, the cover on the face is just milky white and when the light is off you can't perceive any of the yellow light cells inside, which we found in some of those from Amazon. They do three colours of light, warm white, day white and cool white, so perhaps the day white would suit you better The dining area we're keeping as halogen GU10s on a dimmer because we prefer the warmer, softer colour of the halogens. We also have a pair of table lamps on the sideboard and 2 wall lights in that bit. We have a wall light in the kitchen - along with dimmable in-cupboard lighting in the glass fronted wall cabinets and dimmable under cupboard lighting. So, we can have as much or as little light as the occasion requires, but it is most important to have the option of good task lighting in the kitchen I think....See MoreWallpaper/paint choice for large living room (& other dilemmas)
Comments (24)Thanks Minnie, I will look for a couple of darker accessories to bring the room together. We loved the grape wallpaper and had it until recently, as we fancied a change. We haven't had the grey wallpaper long unfortunately, but it just doesn't look right so decided to have a redo. (This is the only chance I've got though so anxious to get it right!) We are upgrading to a bigger TV, but it's still in the box at the moment! Hopefully the electrician who will hang it on the wall will be able to fit us in this week or next, and then I can decide what to put above the sideboard and piano. I know the TV will be wider than the TV cabinet but unfortunately we can't change any of the furniture. I'm hoping to find a way to make it look more balanced maybe by placing something on either side of the TV cabinet like plants and/or lanterns. Here's another photo of the wallpapers up on the wall - I'm maybe leaning towards the left one, as I like the textured look - might be longer lived than the patterns? I'm not sure....See MoreKitchen/dining dilemma
Comments (14)You have a similar kitchen to me so I understand your pain about lack of storage! Mine is galley style but even the units are similar. I have a small pantry which has a sharply sloping roof under the stairs, so not ideal but it holds a lot. I too have a sideboard which stores all my baking and “entertaining stuff”. I think you could fit in more storage where the table is. It could me more units or it could be a stand alone pantry unit. I think a navy or graphite grey one would look great or you could carry on with the white/cream of your current units. I think, and please don’t be offended, you have too much stuff out on the worktops which increases the feeling of clutter, sorry! Here’s some ideas of possible standalone storage. Even budget companies like Howdens are doing them....See MoreAby
