Living Rooms Design Dilemma Renovating

help needed- blue sofa in the living room

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice for my living room. I’ve just got this blue chesterfield for the living room which I love but I’m not sure how to make it work with the rest of the room. The room has recently been painted.

The sofa can be sent back if you guys think it’s a non-starter. This is my first flat so I’m not sure what I’m doing! So far I’ve been collecting some of my favourite pieces.

Would love your advice on how to make this room come together.

The room is south facing and gets plenty of natural light (by London standards) and has a large window with river views.

It looks a great room. It's quite tricky to help as you're collecting things you really love from travels etc so you're probably best placed to choose! I assume you're not having a tv? The layout doesn't quite work for me personally as the single sofa isn't sociable and you don't really have a focal point. I'm not sure on your thoughts re layout but I might remove the leaf from the table and store the odd chairs. Put the table where the sideboard is and put the sofa where the table is (leaving a gap in front of the radiator). Then move the sideboard where the sofa is and have a chair under the wall light angled towards the sofa. I might add a Persian rug in spice colours with a bit of blue in. I think I would update the windsor chairs by painting them, I quite like the idea of doing them in colours scales. The lamp is for the sideboard. Love the art and mirror but the scale doesn't quite work. If you did change the layout (and it worked!) I might revisit where you've got things on the wall. I like the coffee table on the link but it may be too large and samey but it may be worth checking on their website periodically. I think a large plant on the floor would look great plus 1/2 smaller ones or stems on furniture.

PS love the burnt orange rug, I've been after one for ages!

What a lovely room and your sofa is gorgeous. I am a sucker for a jewel colour velvet. It is quite similar to the teal on I have in my study. When I was doing that room some Houzzers gave me some wonderful suggestions on colours and fabrics. Something that stood out (but I didn't end up going with it, sorry to say) was the jewel colours in peacocks. I think that would suit your room beautifully. I will find the pics and repost them here in a mo.

The sofa is fabulous! I would get a couple of large Margo Selby or same style multi-colour cushions; remove the sconce from above the sofa, and either find another mirror to put above the sofa or other art work. The sconce might work on the bit of wall to the left of the door, but it needs to be lower on the wall. Try a floor lamp in a corner and a couple of table lamps on either side of the sofa. Then get a soft, plush rug for warmth and texture.

Yellow or orange is a great counterpoint for cushions for the sofa and maybe a rug. Curtains are more expensive to replace so it may be best to keep them neutral. There's a cute modern style rug from habitat with a grey & yellow pattern. Take a swatch of your check and see how well it matches.

Ah, can't be sure, but it looks a lot like F&B Pitch Blue. Keep in mind that colours that you see online will most probably look very different in your home, because the light will be different. Also, photos are almost always manipulated, and all screens will give a slightly different image, so even if they mention which paint they've used, it might look different in real life. Best thing is to try a couple of colours out in your room, not smaller than A4 size really, to get a good idea of how it will look. Good luck

Hi, The sofa is gorgeous! Love these inky blue velvets. I would be a little concerned given the light coming in being south facing. Blue is one of the colours that fades really quickly so maybe think of added protection on windows I see you have curtains (which look very elegant) but maybe some reverse roller blinds that can roll up tight when you don't need them and won't spoil your views outside. A rug would look great in here so that the furniture doesn't feel as if it is floating. A larger mirror or painting behind the sofa would look good. Add a few blue accessories to tie in the blue. Side tables and table lamps will give a cosy feel to the room. Style your own cushions on sofa to give a more individual look. Hope this helps.

You bought a gorgeous sofa but it stands alone against the wall. I would try to create a ' conversation ' area, with 1 or 2 armchairs, a rug in the middle, different sofa cushions probably of dark green and peacock colours, floor lamp.
I would put mirror above the sideboard and pictures above the sofa.
Do not be afraid to re-arrange your furniture around the room until you are satisfied with the result.

Also it would be good to paint a dining table and chairs. If you do not afraid of bright colours than in peacock colour. If you are not sure about this colour than even in graphite ( nearly black) .

Personally, I really like your living room. And the sofa is very beautiful, its color too. I wouldn't change anything if I were you.

It's a lovely room and a very striking sofa, but it is very dominant and needs a bit of calm around it. I would avoid brightly coloured cushions etc and go for a more natural look, anything with brown in is the natural complementary colour of blue anyway and will look great. I would go for a Moroccan berber rug, some leather pouffs and neutral cushions. The red picture look fabulous, I think you don't need to add any more saturated colour. Here are some ideas....
