Help with ideas for layout of new kitchen extension
Comments (4)Thanks for the reply, don't think I'm quit at that stage yet though. Was more looking for general ideas on where cooking/dining areas could be located and how to fit in the utility and loo. Hoping that others who have done similar projects could share ideas on how to get the best layout for the space....See MoreNew extension but is it an economy to reuse old kitchen doors/draws?
Comments (19)Some people are very sniffy about Ikea kitchens and imply they're of a cheap standard, but I have found the quality to be good and sturdy and certainly better than the Wickes kitchen I had the misfortune to encounter. Obviously, they can't compete with the likes of DeVol, but I would put them at the top in their price bracket. My mother had an Ikea kitchen installed in the late 80's and it was still going strong in 2010, when we replaced it to sell the house after her death. On the strength of that, when we re-did our kitchen last year, we didn't hesitate in getting Ikea for that. The savings we made on the cabinets, meant we could get high end appliances and Corian worktops. Our lovely kitchen fitter made some smashing bespoke touches - different plinths, tongue and groove side panels, matching bookcase etc to finish it off. You can even have a no obligation sit down with one of their designers in the Ikea store to plan it out. They are really good at making the most of your space - rather than a lot of others, who plan your kitchen according to how best their cabinets will fit rather than what you actually need....See MoreNew Extension - Kitchen design/layout
Comments (10)The kitchen seems a little disjointed at the moment with the run on the highest wall being so separated from the rest of the kitchen. I would worry that this would become prime dumping spot! Also what a fabulously dramatic ceiling angle, I'd definitely look to make the most of that. I think you could put all your tall units with up-lights on the tallest wall to really make the eye look up. Also when you're cooking. That frees up the angled wall to make it fabulous with art/open shelves/bit of everything! I think you're right to put one big window by the sink which can then also have art or shelving. The island could perhaps have a more interesting seating arrangement than in a line to try and make the most of the garden views. If you need any more help, feel free to get in touch and we can bounce some ideas around together. good luck Emily x...See Moreshould I paint my kitchen cupboards or buy new doors? Is the style old
Comments (4)I would paint them! If you have a look at our Kitchen Refurbishment project on our page, it's exactly what we did. We replaced the hinges and knobs on an old pine kitchen with polished chrome and painted the cabinets. The client cried when she saw it finished, she was so pleased, and her friends and family thought she'd had a new kitchen!...See MoreAndrew
