what material is on the front of the tub?

Is that wood or wall with shadow boxes on the front of the tub or something else?

Hello Maavernon, yes, the paneling is wood on the walls and the front of the tub. The tub deck is thassos marble with a small splash in the same stone about 3 inches high around the edge of the tub so that the wood does not sit directly on the tub deck and wick any sitting water. Best, Tom

Honestly, I think the freestanding tubs are a bit of a fad. They have a wonderful old-fashioned look (and I have an original clawfoot one in my 1920's era bathroom, which I love). But I don't think that a lovely inset tub with a deck around it (which is MUCH more convenient for perching your shampoo or bubblebath or soap) will ever go out of style. it looks like you have red brick on both neighbours. I would take your inspiration from the rest of the street keep the materials faithful to the original houses but find a crisper way of doing it.....for instance: pebble dash on other houses might be interpreted as smooth render on your house. deep 1930s bays on other houses might be interpreted by a similarly deep window on your house (but perhaps in the grey shown on the picture above). if other houses have a wood shingle/tile on the front elevation perhaps instead of stone cladding you could mirror this but in a cleaner way with wide board cladding?

Thank you Jonathan, I am very keen on this specific feature of corian. I was thinking more about a slippery surface with minimum friction, so dirt and water slides. I think corian has one standard finish but I need to check further.

hot tub on decking or paving?

Looking for advice on what material to sit a hot tub on? We have an as yet ‘unlandscaped’ area of the garden adjacent to the garage wall. Photo attached. Have recently had the garage wall rendered in white and now has 3 wall lights and power outlet so seems a good location for the hot tub. The ground is slightly higher next to garage as is on a slope running down to the patio where the photo is taken from which is next to the house. Was thinking possibly composite decking to mix up the materials as we have 2 patio areas already. One in silver sandstone and one in grey slate. Is either a better option for weight of a hot tub? Thanks
