Hallway Conundrum
Comments (15)Hi. I think I'd go for a pale but warm greige on the ŵall. If you look at how you've laid the pics on the rug and ŵall, the antique white frames aren't really standing out and yet they do against the carpet. Dulux just walnut may be an option but they have a couple of similar shades perhaps with a touch more beige in which may also work. The vanilla isn't too dissimilar from what you have already and as you have it in the lounge a different colour may be a nice change? Definitely add a mirror over the cabinet and a plant or flowers in whatever form are always welcoming in a hall. Table lamps are also good , maybe see if you can find any battery operated ones if you don't have plug sockets there...See MoreScatter cushion conundrum!!!
Comments (28)I like various things from the picture below, I like the side table and lamp. The pattern cushions are good, they draw the colour from the curtains and the bird cushion is good also but I would put the bird cushion in the bend of the sofa and the floral cushions at each end. The paler cushions I would take a dye to them a deeper blue and maybe another contrast colour (you could make smaller cushion covers from the large blue cushion that you already have if you are handy at sewing) therefore picking out the blue and another colour from your art work. The deep blue throw over the foot stool looks good that way, show the fringe and maybe put it more centrally in the room. TKMax or such shops have reasonably priced lovely large coloured ornaments or vases which could be featured on the window sill or a larger plant, even a fake one, less hassle, again can be found in places like TKMax. Plus make the curtains fuller by drawing them slightly more to the centre of the window, not completely as you don't want to block the lovely daylight and use curtain tie backs (contrast colour, elaborate, simple whatever suits your taste modern, traditional). Using some of these ideas could also help to pull the room together to give a more welcoming appearance. Check pininterest for ideas also. Hope some of this helps, all the best and enjoy your tweaking....See Moretimber v UPVC a coastal conundrum????
Comments (9)Hi Moira, I do a lot of work in the Lake District so this issue of traditional style verses the weather conditions come up a lot. The honest answer is that you can'y beat the look / proportion of a timber sash window but they "will" fail.....they will warp making them stiff and require painting on a regular basis due to the severity of the weather. Each time you re paint they become stiffer on the counterbalance unless you do a full strip back to timber. I have never seen a UPC that looks anything other than it is, a bulky plastic window.. I usually recommend a good quality aluminium sash. Quite expensive but they aren't susceptible to the weather, the thermal values are excellent and you don't need to spend thousands re painting them every few years. A good company will let you select any RAL colour. http://www.duration.co.uk/AluminiumWindows-VerticalSliders.asp I found the above company as an example. Definitely arrange to see an sample window before going ahead as the proportions are everything when selecting sash windows. Hope that helps, Martin www.angel-martin.com www.3dinteriorillustration.co.uk PS Double check with the planners, most coastal locations have very strict planning regulations so this may dictate your choice.....See Moreliving room layout and design conundrum
Comments (3)Hi Jonny, How about placing your sofa with it's back against the external wall and then having a TV unit or sideboard with TV on top or wall mounted above to the right hand side of the chimney (as you look at the floor plan)? You could then install a fireplace to the chimney and comfortably view the TV and fireplace from your sofa. Or you could position the sofa on the far right hand wall (as you look at the plan) and have the TV angled towards the sofa if you still want to view the window from the sofa (a corner or chaise sofa could work well in this layout? Check out our website here as we offer a professional, affordable online interior design service and if you select our Complete Design Experience one of our designers will put together some suggested layouts for your room as well as a full room design ans shoppable moodboard for you (see examples here). All the best....See Moreclara241
