living room layout help
Recently had my offer accepted on my first home for my family and I. It is a slightly awkward layout and was wondering if anyone could advise on the best layout for the room if I attach pictures.
I eventually want country / farmhouse / rustic style for now we have black furniture unfortunately (not my choice unfortunately) so technically like the pictures but hoping we can quickly change these after moving. So ideas in this style will be greatly appreciated. ☺️ the floor plan also is missing the fireplace (black) to the left and a door or the right hand side but will attach pictures to show ( this isn’t my furniture just pics online from when it was selling) thanks in advanced

the fireplace looks like it would be easy to remove. I think that there are very convincing electric wood burning stoves on the market. With that in mind, I came up with this layout for you. Not sure how wide the dining room end is, but a dining bench would possibly be a good idea. I've used tiles behind the wood burner, which would break up the long wall and define the dining and seating area.

As you walk in to the room, the fire place is opposite in the middle with the windows to the right hand side. i think the tv points are currently in the left hand corner but we can move this if needs be. As you can see it all needs updating/redoing etc. the sofa is actually broke and the chair belonged to my dad when he was unwell and I plan to sell it cheaply or donate to someone who needs a rise and recline. im unsure about structural changes, whether I will knock the kitchen and ‘dining room’ (which I’m using as an office currently) into one. depends on budget. I like the idea of a combined social area, but I hate noise and not sure I want to sit in kitchen as such. But for now my next room is this living room. But i do need to consider whether I have a Door into the dining room, or if I do make it one kitchen/diner I wouldn’t need a door really as the one into the kitchen would suffice. so difficult! Depending on where exactly your fireplace is located, you can create a lovely contemporary composition with your TV. Have a look at the quick model I have put together. 5 years agoMy house has a similar layout and unfortunately it isn't possible to have the 2 sofas opposite each other when one is under the window because the sofa opposite will block the route into the kitchen and dining area. When I bought my house, the photo of the sitting room had 2 sofas placed the opposite way. It looked quite nice but does make it difficult to place the tv.
A better alternative would be one sofa under the window and the other at right angles to it.Carolina
5 years agoEmbzop is right. It's very likely you wouldn't have enough space to walk around a sofa towards the dining area. It will also close off the room, make it look smaller, I think.
For the layouts I used the dimensions of this sofa. There's also a 150 cm wide 2-seater version available. Not saying that you have to buy these, but just to give you an idea of the dimensions of the furniture I've used.https://www.dunelm.com/product/rupert-3-seater-velvet-sofa-1000113347
Here's a layout with the 3 and 2-seater. Replaced the cabinet under the TV with a console table, so you have enough space to walk into the room. This will however give you no storage space at all.If you see furniture you like, measure carefully and cut out paper or put tape on the floor where you're thinking of putting the items in your room. It will give you a good idea of how much space the items will take up. In the shop something will look much smaller than it will look in your room.

5 years agoA version with the TV on the long wall. I do feel that this will make navigating through the room a bit more difficult, and I've put in a knitted pouffe instead of a chair.
