What do you use to clean your windows?

Just cleaned the inside windows as it’s such a lovely day. Used a Karcher Window Cleaner but the windows look worse than before! We have a window cleaner who cleans the outside ones, but I never seem to get the inside ones sparkling. How do you clean yours?

Bog standard glass cleaner...............spray all over, then use a window squeegee to take it back off, wipe the squeegee every time you pull it down, don't use cloths or anything else on the windows. Works great and doesn't take long..........no elbow grease involved. Perfect.

This is the wife's method, she vapes for Britain and cleans all the windows inside every week like clockwork.

Good old windolene works for me. Even use that monthly on shower door comes up sparkly.

White cane vinegar/water mix followed by paper towels then a micro fibre cloth.

The lego Millenium Falcon, Deathstar, Wookie Gunship, AT-TE etc etc. The largest floor space in the house is perfect for covering with lego and is so far away from adult space that we need never to go up there. However his lease is up and I am reclaiming it for an art studio.

As no-one stays anymore, I swapped my lounge with my spare room (flat). I now have a lovely square lounge just for TV and chats etc. My spare bed is in my new 'craft room' just in case but it is covered with paper, clay, frames, paint and records. I paint and listen to old rock and metal that I can shout along to!!!

I'm highly allergic to lots of things, so the primary factor for me while choosing a cleaning product is whether it is hypoallergic and doesn't provoke my allergy. Most of hyppoallegic products available where I live also claim to be eco-friendly (yet, there definitely are some eco-friendly products which I am highly allergic to - like those containing natural orange extracts, etc). So, technically, I am using only eco-friendly products, but not for being green reson actually.

shed (brick built & a bit damp) = garden tools, greenhouse = tomatoes, peppers & a grape vine, workshop = man cave, garage = storage, summerhouse = chairs to sit with a glass of wine & a good book. :) we're very fortunate to have all of these.

We use Method everything. The wood cleaning smells divine and the bathroom cleaner is fab. Highly recommended. Just sad they don't do the Fresh Air scented fabric conditioner anymore.

I have a window cleaner who does outside (only recently started using one, was just getting too much) and he uses pure water so there’s no wiping off.

Inside and before i coughed up £15 for the window cleaner pure water swill I used a Karcher. I have found it now leaves lines down the windows where I drag it down. I’m not sure if it’s me and if I’m not pressing on enough. I’ve started to use the Karcher to get the thick of the water off and then buffing up with a micro fibre cloth but seems like I’ve created more work for myself.

Hi Forza. I use warm water with a drop of Fairy washing up liquid. Wipe windows generously then use a squeegee blade, wipe off excess then polish with dry car glass cleaning microfiber (I use a posh one from Halfords). Trick is not to let the water dry out before buffing dry. I still use Windowlene sometimes tho, depends on how lazy I am :). Not tried the Method cleaners before, they’re on my shopping list!

I use a damp cloth with a bit of barkeepers friend then wipe over with a wet cloth. Then use the Karcher but wipe the blade after each drag, it's the bits of stuff from the windows that cause the lines. Give a quick buff with kitchen towel on any marks.

I often use a steam cleaner followed by a buff with a microfibre cloth. Takes a lot less elbow grease to remove dog nose smudges than any other method I've tried.

Small squirt of Flash Bathroom with a bathroom scourer. Light pressure. Quick rinse off and dry with old tea towels. Works for mirrors so now use on my windows.

Ha, had never heard of Barkeepers Friend (why is there no apostrophe? :) ) so googled it.

Interesting (ish), it’s been around for ages.

We need our front exterior (some masonry, woodwork, frontdoor and windows) cleaned.

Anyone who can recommend someone in North/East London?

ED - I use bar keepers friend for cleaning the glass on my solid fuel stove. Works great.

E D - the Corian fitter recommended Barkeepers Friend for keeping the white Corian worktop free of stains (tea etc.) works brilliantly.

Love barkeepers friend, excellent on stainless steel too. Also a fan of all Method products, especially laundry, and, of course, microfibre cloths.

Steam cleaner great too.

Shame I never have time to use all these things though ;-)

White vinegar diluted with water... have tried everything else under the sun and nothing works better. It stinks like a chip shop after though!

Wow, I must be very old school - soapy water, squeegeeing, followed by a buff with newspaper, just like my granny used to do it. Plus,I don’t really believe in having loads of single-job cleaning products.

If I’ve left the windows a bit too long then I’ll use window spray cleaner sprayed all over and wear gloves so my water can be very hot and go over all the windows in the room with any cloth. Then get fresh hot clean water and fresh cloth start again on each window then squeegee and dry cloth for edges and runs.
Mine really need doing now and been meaning to all day but run out of daylight. Been in the garden and done the first mow of the year :)

Washing up liquid, squeegee'd off then buff up with scrunched newspaper is my best method. Sadly we no longer get the free newspapers so I have to remember to pick one up.

Same as Rachelmidlands. Bucket of warm water with smallest dash of washing up liquid. 3 microfibe cloths from the pound shop. One that's gets wet, one to remove excess and one to buff it up. Doesn't take much effort either - i go from left to right from top to bottom with each cloth in order. Comes up a treat.

I was always under the impression Windows should be cleaned on dull days, to avoid streaks due to liquids evaporating too quickly in sunshine ?!

I would recommend using the pages of a newspaper instead of wiping cloths, together with any glass cleaner it will do the job!
