Kitchen Benchtops

Hi All,

We are finalizing our kitchen and need to decide on benchtops. What options do we have other than laminate that are durable, look good and don’t cost the earth.
Also advice on the different stones would be appreciated.

Hi Laura, thanks for posting. Wow, it looks amazing! Amazing how much difference the floor, splashback and mirror make, it's transformed. Well done. I'm struggling to like a splashback in my new kitchen (even though I chose it) so was looking for inspiration - my partner just doesn't get it and will probably leave me if I even dare to mention changing it :-)

Given that you are moving and this is to help a sale I would just go safe and cheap with laminate worktop. I would go white with the worktop, it would be on trend and I think it would modernise your kitchen immediately. I think the cupboards in your kitchen are actually very nice and will work for a modern country kitchen look. If you can cover the tiles, it would make a bigger difference. Again, I would go cheap with splash back panels over the tiles, IKEA do these for £25 a panel. If you keep the tiles, you just need to make sure that the worktop works with them, if tiles are cream then I wouldn't go with a white worktop, something off white or cream would be better but I would keep it light. Thank you for all your responses. My preference is matching splash back to the bench-tops. The trouble is the size of these laminate splash back comes in are 3000mm x 600mm or 1500mm x 1210 mm - I will require at-least 3100mm by approx 695 mm (h) as all units are set a little bit higher due to the minimum requirements for gas hob clearance. I opted all units to be set higher as I wanted streamlined look hence I am looking at a minimum of 2 joins. Would 2 joins on a laminate splash back look okay? Or would it be too obvious. ( I will of course ensure the joining material glue or whatever is called is matched to the laminate colour?) Thank you

Hi Deb, "whiteish" and light greys would work great for a contemporary modern look.
