Long dark living room area - how to separate dining living areas?
Comments (6)How about putting the chest of drawers under the window so it is visible when you first walk into the room. Then put the desk where the chest of drawers is currently. I would then get a large storage TV unit for the end wall where the dark furniture is. This would be best in white or taupe to keep it light in that end of the room. You could even get this made in the same units as the kitchen cupboards. I would buy new 3 seater sofas in a traditional or classic style to suit the antiques in a beige colour linen and then two armchairs in a patterned material - floral or stripe to suit your personal taste. I would keep the sofas in the same position and place the two armchairs facing the TV unit, side by side. You would need to make sure the armchairs were placed so they were easy to walk around and they would need to be small but comfortable. Keep the table where it is and update the lamp to a more statement piece. An orchid (fake or real) on the chest of drawers would add a touch of class. I quite like the rug that is there as it goes nicely with the antiques and you could bring out the blues with a few duck egg blue coloured cushions, and a duck egg blue roman blind would soften the window. Just some ideas.... I'd love to see photos when you've finished, it's a lovely space!...See MoreHelp! Ideas on how to furnish an open plan kitchen living room?
Comments (13)You have a lovely home to work with. I would say don't underestimate mirrors for making a room look twice as big. Have you considered giant mirrors, or mirroring an entire wall? How about the curved wall? I would pay attention to lighting also, as great lighting can make your home look a million dollars and more spacious. I would make a focal point with television resting on a gorgeous storage cabinet, place wall picture frames on wall where tv is placed, this will draw attention to the art and cabinet rather than the tv itself. I would get highback armchairs and use them for both dining and lounge seating with a sofa. I like those Victorian card tables on wheels, that fold up, multipurpose. Only buy furniture you absolutely love, don't follow trends, follow your heart, after all you want to feel good at home. Don't be half-hearted follow your dreams, be confident. When you fully execute your interior passion you'll be happy and others who come to your home will sense you and credit your style as being authentic, true to you and they will love it as much as they love you....See MoreHow would you furnish this awkward living room/dining room/kitchen
Comments (7)Hi. Personally I'd put a slatted room divider (just the unit width) at the end of the sink run to allow light and zone the kitchen area slightly. (I will try and find a picture showing the same in a similar kitchen). Assuming the fridge isn't staying, I'd just buy a white one so it blends in, maybe like a retro style one as they look a bit prettier. I'd also opt for a round table. You could paint the wall (and rad) behind the table a darker/warmer colour and add art. Hang the light low over the table to zone it and maybe have a mirror or mirror tiles on the left wall. You could also consider acrylic chairs as they don't visually fill the space. I'd go for a wider curtain pole to maximise light coming in. Sofa, choose something on legs with narrow arms, being able to see the floor will make the room bigger and maximise seating. I also wouldn't choose anything dark as it could take over the room, just use dark/warm colours for cushions and throw if wanted. There are plug in wall lights around which won't take up any floor space. I don't know if you need storage but you should be able to fit a sideboard between the dining and living area? Re shopping suggestions, you don't have any ideabooks set up so could you give people an idea of styles and colours you like?...See MoreHow can I MAKE my living room a show room
