Under counter freezer

We are getting our kitchen renovated and have found that we don't have the room for the american fridge freezer we thought we would be able to have. Instead I'm thinking we will go for a large freestanding fridge and then a separate freezer unit in the central island. Has anyone had experience of under counter freezers and are there any watch outs? What are the best brands? I'm thinking drawer unit not side opening door as I can't bear those plastic drawer things as they always break. thanks!

Wall mounted ovens are definitely a more comfortable and user friendly position, however, it's not just the height that causes discomfort. You need to be wary of the door too. All wall mounted ovens have doors that open down to create a shelf, which means that you cannot physically get close to the oven shelves. This can create issues for your back when reaching into an oven with something heavier, and the shorter you are the more of an increase risk of back strain. With floor mounted ovens you have the potential of the conventional door side swing option which would help with the problem mentioned above. An ideal scenario would be wall mounted ovens with the slide away oven doors as seen in the Great British Bake Off. These ovens open downwards, but the door slides into the body of the oven, so that you can step up to the oven itself, negating a potential for back strain from stretching.

That's almost identical to ours that we're having fitted at the end of this month. Great minds and all that :) We went for a split level breakfast bar for the reasons that have already been stated, oh and also 3 stools. We have no issues with the ovens and hob being at opposite ends of the room, for the same reasons that you also stated. We thought that it 'could' be an issue, but over time we found that actually there a very very few times that were using both at exactly the same time. Usually we just chuck something in the oven, then take it out a few hours later. The veg and stuff, just pop it on the hob. No problems, I'm sure it's just a 'what people are used to' problem rather than anything else. Yes, we also have a full height fridge next to the ovens. That's not going to be an issue either IMO, i mean, how many times to you leave the oven doors open and are desperate to get into the fridge - saying that though, we've gone for Neff hide & slide so the oven door isn't going to be an issue either. Integrated dishwasher, yes agreed. That's what we have gone for. The freezers are in the utility room. We've also gone for a wine cooler, and a black ceramic sink. Mary, re ordering with DIY, every single element you need is listed separately on their website you just need to go through methodically and add everything to your basket, (it sounds way worse than it is in practice :-)). Once this is done, you can send them your design and the reference number for your order and they will check you have everything you need. They spotted that I had missed an end post that I needed. I must have called them 10 times during the whole process and they could always answer my question straight away, or with a quick call down to their technical team. I did miss one end panel too that the builder realised when fitting, it did not delay the fitting and he just added it when it arrived about 8 days later. The £15k was for everything including fitting. Fitting was £1800, worktops fitted were £4k which was a great price for the amount of Silestone. We got this from Henderstone, I would recommend them. Integrated larder fridge, dishwasher, under counter freezer all from AO at a total cost of £850, Delonghi range cooker also £850. Appliances are not high end, but standard brands, the fridge is integrated and we did not require an ice dispenser or anything fancy, I can live with a bag of ice in the freezer for my G&T's :-) so as long as the fridge does its job i.e. stays cold, I'm happy. The units are Helmsley in-frame, the grey units around the walls are from their standard range of colours it's called 'soft grey'. The island is Hague Blue, they offer their units in any Farrow and Ball colour of your choice. This is then called Helmsley Bespoke. A little tip; going for the bespoke option adds about 30% to the price of the units, so if there is a colour that you like in the standard range it helps keep costs down to go for that for the bulk of the kitchen and then accent with less units in the more costly option. This is what we did with the island, luckily we genuinely loved the soft grey anyway, so this worked well for us. I also totally agree with Asifa, it is all in the fitting, a really budget kitchen fitted well and with good worktops can look amazing, a high end kitchen poorly fitted cheapens the end result. For option 2 , I would get rid of the sink or at least get a much smaller sink (maybe a mini butler) in the 2nd plan. It takes up far too much space. Alternatively, you could move the sink to the opposite wall. Either way it makes the utility room really cramped. Especially if you're trying to fit a boiler, sink, stacked units, cleaning products and a radiator in there. Is there a separate door to the toilet? Option 1 gives you a bit more wiggle room to fit all the items you want inside. You'd lose about a meter from the garage but I think it'd be worth it. If the door swung outward or a pocket door was installed, you could have a mini corner sink in the toilet. Go for a narrow width door in either situation 680mm.
