Help with hallway colour
Struggling with our hallway and living room. Started off with purple, went back to a base coat of white which I thought looked nice but partner decided was too boring. Had the idea of keeping the walls white but painting all the woodwork grey which looked good on the handrail but wasn't working on the architrave. Decided we'd go for ammonite on the walls which we were intending to use for the living room but despite looking great in the tin and on woodwork as soon as we put it on the walls it turns far darker and comes out beige.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a very light grey? Perhaps FB 'Blackened' is worth a go, but suspect will be too dark. White Mist or Polished Pebble the only other 2 i've come across.

Comments (16)Hi - Both colours belong to the Yellow Hue Family. Portland Stone Pale is both a little lighter & a little more neutral than School House White. But it also sits a little more anti-clockwise towards the Yellow-Red Hue Family, so by comparison may read slightly warmer with more possibility of peachiness to its warmth. That being said, because School House White is a little darker a a little more colourful, the extra bump of Chroma is likely what you need to bust through any tendency to shadow or gloom in the hallway & still read as a colour. Test both in the more shadowed areas as well as the light. Either can be prone to shifting purple-ish in certain imbalanced lighting situations, so see how they behave for you. Paint it bronze, a third of the wall and the ceiling. Just an idea.What style is your house, your personality?
A hallway is nice to make a statement in, quirky. Because you don't have to sit in it all day, you can add some fun. Black doors, white trim. Yellow walls, green ceiling. ;)

5 years agoI painted shadow white fb modern emulsion very pleased don’t be put off by first coat once second coat goes on changes it completely - I will paint door pale grey

5 years agoHi Martin. I used chic shadow by dulux. I chose it because I was struggling to find a ‘clean’ grey that did not have blue/purple/brown undertones.

5 years agoTry Craig & Rose’s ‘White doe’ - a very pale clean grey that only reads as grey next to pure brilliant white. The splodges in the photo are the white doe; I thought it close to PBW, but as you can see it’s actually grey.

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoI think the colour on the top left that you're struggling to read is white mist. That is what I have throughout mine. Very subtle and the 'cleanest' pale grey I found (and I tested A LOT!!)

5 years agoThe grey and white railings are beautiful. I feel maybe it's a little cold and some colour could warm it up a bit.
Maybe a bit of artwork could do the trick. I've used this website a number of times to add a splash of colour to my bedroom walls and i'm pleased with the result.
