Homes should be about individuality not breaking the bank. Hide the wires consider a good floor covering perhaps a lovely rug and build with what you have and enjoy the experience if you tire then just move much loved pieces to other rooms for a total new look. I love homes that are about the people who live in them makes me want to stay and have a cuppa your small pic here gives that vibe maybe the warmth of the wood in here im not sure but dont go to mad and spoil the feel that you already starting to create by getting to many boring mass produced highstreet junk in there

It's further than I thought. My concern was the stepped in wall and also the opening to the dining area but as it's further up than I thought the ".entrance" should be fine. You would however be left with an alcove between new and old fire. I wonder what shelves would look like there (I couldn't find an exact pic) or just box it in.. Tadelakt is similar to polished concrete, polished plaster, microcement etc, you could look at any of them just to add a bit of texture/warmth. You could always pay someone to do a CAD design in your room if this is your preferred option? Having said that if you frequently have large parties maybe it's not a great idea to have a fixed structure there? Maybe a tv and fire side by side is a better option? Will see if I can find a pic

A round coffee table would work well to pick up on the circular shapes already in the room such as the ceiling roses and even the curves on the new sofa arms. We have a customer that's had these sofa's recently and we went for a scandi style. I think it would look lovely. I don't know how hot electric fires get but the tv looks too close to it for me. You would also not have much usuable shelf space. Another option might be to build a frame out of battens and fill it in with MDF or plasterboard and have a gel fire or a long thin electric fire for a more modern look. If you look at the link below you would require a false chimney breast which could easily have shelves or niches.
