Low japanese style bed on carpet floor?

I want to get a sanded pine Japanese style bed frame for my bedroom which has greyish carpeted floor. From my research, I've noticed that most of the time these beds are on a wooden floor, which matches very well. From an aesthetic perspective, is it ok to put this style of bed on a carpeted floor? The carpet is thin, so the bed wont sink into the carpet.

I don't think it matters at all, it's all down to personal taste.

No problem. If you like the Japanese style, I think it's more important to keep everything simple and quite minimal.

I think you make the room look taller by having full length curtains ( vertical lines trick your eye which you may bear in mind when choosing wall lights.) avoid horizontal lines like dado rails. You might also paint the skirtings the same colour as the wall. I would see if you can lower your bed and favour talbots rather than full height wardrobes. I think pictures should be hung a little lower and you should favour portrait oriented pictures rather than landscape. When you choose your carpet ( assuming budget allows) I would have a plain border in the same colour as the walls which blurs the edges but visually makes the footprint look less large and therefore the ceiling less low.

Hello Lucy8i8, My first thoughts is artwork. This is how I see your room: Thought 1: A large darkish brown wooden framed poster of a musical subject (whatever form that may take) that has splashes or flecks of white, cream and dark brown in it, if possible. If it has more colours, the better. To hang over the fireplace harmonising the colours of the room and the artwork as one. The larger, the better. Thought 2: A wallpaper mural just for the chimney breast wall. A design or photograph that can be whatever you're drawn to that makes you feel part of the image, not just 'looking' at an image. Again, colours are key, but incorporating some primary and secondary colours of the room if possible. Thought 3: If you have a particular subject that's meaningful to you, source artwork incorporating that subject, it will be more sentimental to you. I love your style. If you are after industrial, geometric style then you do great. With the minimalist style if I was you I would ask myself e.g.: How many chairs I have got in the dining room and why? Answer: because I am having bigger family, or friends around, (or simply) I really like that table with that amount of the chairs. That is all great. Now - how many lights I have got in the dining room and why? Answer: because I don't know what else to put there or where else to put the lights and I like them. OK, do you really like it? If yes, leave it there, but if you feel like there is something not quite right about it, like light on the table while there is light from the ceiling, take one out (of course the ceiling light is absolutely gorgeous). As minimalist I wouldn't want anything which doesn't do any purpose, so dry flowers would go all out of my house. In your case I would use on the table long tray of succulent. It will make the room feel fresh (instead of dry). Or if you like fruit, I would put a large probably metal, glass, or porcelain bowl with fruit on in (avoid wooden container on wooden table). Very large rug under the table would soften the feel too, but if you prefer dining area without rug a have rug by the sofa (which that would be my choice) I I would put a large, textured, but simple tapestry on the wall and maybe large clock on the opposite wallpapered wall. In any room I would avoid flowers in the vase and instead I would get nice, large indoor plants, which are easy to look after (they are not that expensive too and make the home feel so fresh and alive/living.

Here we go. Had a little play around but thought this might look good as it gives you multiple areas of seating and interest. I made the assumption that the entrance to the garden from the decking is on the LHS. So immediately below the decking as you walk in is a square section with what could be a statue or water feature. I think a water feature would be nice here as you’d be able to hear it from the decking as well. Then a fairly broad area of paving making the most of the views. After that is a planting area with big boulders as these feature a lot in Japanese gardens. Plants and boulders surrounded by grey slate chips to make it look like a river and a little cobble stream that runs under a bridge. Bridge then leads to a circular patio. I kept the steps to the bottom gate as they were as it seemed easier but feel free to alter things as you wish. Just for fun I added (or attempted to) a pergola. Anyway that’s my two penny’s worth:-), hope it gives you some inspiration. (click pics to enlarge).

Just make sure there's enough space for ventilation under the matress (let's say 10cm). People can sweat a liter per night.

It’s no probs at all although it would go with a nice contemporary look carpet, we have a dark grey (near velvet look) soooo soft under foot and can actually see you foot prints in it, that’s what actually makes it! Our bed is about 36 cams from floor to surface of mattress! It’s very low but looks superb, actually prefer the carpet to a wooden floor in the bedroom! If I had a hard floor there would be a huge rug on top of it!
