Help with kitchen colours/ design in north / north west facing room??!

Dying of colour chart exhaustion here, Ive been looking at them for almost 3 years now and we are closing in on our build start date and I feel no closer to the end decision!!

We are building an extension and creating a decent sized 55m2 open plan living / dining / kitchen area.

We have an L-shaped kitchen and we plan to do an island. I was thinking F&B Downpipe on the Island and then simply cannot decide between Strong White and Ammonite for the main units (top and bottom).

We have been looking at the Hendre Creme floor tiles from Mandarine Stone which are quite beige and warm coloured https://www.mandarinstone.com/product/hendre-creme-porcelain

Also stuck on what shape to go for and how best to lay the floor tiles out??? They come in 2 sizes: 600 x 600 (square ) and 800 x 400 (rectangle).

And finally, should we go for all black windows / bifold or white?? I was thinking white for the windows and black (rather than anthracite) for the bifold???

Totally confused so would love any fab advice!!

Hi!

We have a north facing kitchen/dining/living area with a patio facing west and a window on the east side. We went for a lighter colour (slipper satin) on the kitchen units as they are at the 'back' of the room (ie you enter the kitchen from the hallway, then the living/dining area is at the patio/garden end). It is a lovely soft off white and doesn't look cream because of the cooler light north facing rooms get. We opted for Drop Cloth (also F&B) on walls which a lot of people comment on as it looks nice and warm and not too dark nor too pale. Our accent colour on the island/kitchen peninsula is Railings as I have other dark blue accents in my furnishings. If you are going for Downpipe on the island, I would possibly go for Strong White on your units as Ammonite can look quite cold. I have used S White on both walls and woodwork in other areas of my home and love it. Farrow & Ball told me it suits north light well, as does Wimborne White - which is a lovely warm white. Have you tried a sample of it at all?

As for the tiles, I much prefer the blanc ones, think they look more modern.

Thanks so much Dekko Bird! I had considered Drop Cloth but hesitated as it can look a bit too green. Maybe I need to try a sample of that! I will definitely take a look at your instagram page.

I have also been thinking of Lead (Little green paint colour) which is a similar grey to Manor House Grey by F&B but a bit warmer. It would go nicely with Strong White and Skimming Stone but worried it may all look too bland?! Golly too many decisions to make!!

Midcenturylass, I would definitely go for a warmer white if you are open to this! I would personally look for something between the two whites, as the Linen Wash is almost bordering a Beige. Post some photos up once you've painted, i'd love to see the outcome! :) As for your husband show him these two images that i've found online (attached). I'm sure he can understand that a Full red room, will make the room look small and with the lack of light coming into the room from being North facing this will create a very dark space. I hope this help you to suade him against full red!

This is Little Greene Acre in our east facing living room. It definitely looks like a very soft green and although it is very calm and restful, I don't think it will look quite right with your navy sofas. It would, however, be perfect with your fireplace and would complement the tiles really well if you fancied recovering the sofas.

You shouldn’t need to repost - you can edit it (on a pc webpage) and I’d add it to design dilemma as that’s where I think a lot of people follow We used dusk in the valley by valspar for this room, as with the glow from the lamp/copper on the inside of the light it gives a warm glow from the light as well... depends whether you use it more during the day or in the evening. It’s an east facing room but because of the dormer and being a small window it’s not the brightest

Hello Colour Happy, Thank you so very much for commenting on my post. We are leaving the woodwork skimming stone as we have it throughout the house and all internal doors are skimming stone too, it actually looks less cold in the nursery for some reason, I’m not sure why? I would love to go for a very light taupe, as that’s what the skimming stone looks like in the natural light. I’ve taken some more pictures. We only have a local paint shop open so are fairly limited to what we can get at the minute due to the lock down as we’d rather sample it first. I’m thinking we may just choose a Dulux colour incase we hate it and then we’ve not wasted a fortune on farrow and ball. We will only be painting the two plastered walls. I love the idea of a striped carpet, I may look at cancelling our order and have a look into this. I have to avoid loops due to a naughty Persian cat! I love buff wicker and we are planning on ordering a huge wicker toy box, I think this will add texture and a bit of warmth too and match his Moses basket. Although I am sat in here now, the room doesn’t feel too bad although it’s very white his taupe furniture warms it up. The cot matches the linen and the colour on the chair too. I’m still so confused! Love the idea of a painted ceiling but we don’t fancy going up there at the min! I’d love to paper one wall and I’d picked the b and q watering hole paper in the cream but it’s out of stock now. Thanks so much for all your advice. Xx
