Which tile pattern will make my tiny kitchen look bigger?

Should I do regular stacked like the first pic or herringbone. What size tile? I want to make the space feel bigger. The last photo is my kitchen rendering. Thank you!

Hi, Our bathroom was very simulator this and we hated the lack of floor space. We installed a gorgeous shower across the window wall and tiled around the window to protect it from moisture. It's been great so far. Then we moved the toilet to behind the door and put in a smaller countertop sink next to it. We also had the problem of working around the airing cupboard. Taking out the bath was controversial but it hasn't bothered us yet& it's better than walking straight into the bath when you open the door like we used to. We felt that a good quality shower would make the house more saleable in future that a pokey bathroom.

Ikea Kitchens are excellent, the attention to quality is superb. Lots of suppliers only offer doors in particular sizes, which is why when you go to an appointment at Wickes for example and you then take it to Howdens, they often have to swap the cabinets around as they don't all do all the sizes. Factoring in that you may want to change the doors in a few years at this point is in my opinion daft. You buy a kitchen and it should last 10-15 years. Magnet and Howdens offer great kitchens too. However, I have personal experience of fitting an Ikea Kitchen last year and was very impressed. I've used Howdens several times too. There are many companies however, that offer custom sizes when ordering replacements such as Kitchen door workshop and Kitchen Door Outlet to name but two. Saying that you can't replace the doors, just simply isn't accurate.

Bigger bathroom or bigger 3rd bedroom?

Charlotte, from a buyer’s point of view, if the house has 3 bedrooms and a big bathroom, sounds better than a 3 bedroom house with a small bathroom. So we recommend you go for the big bathroom with a separate shower and bath. Bathrooms and kitchens are first thing a buyer notices and are definitely worth the investment. Thank you all for your comments. Very much appreciated. My wife is ruling out wood because she doesn't like the look of wood in kitchens and because we have solid wood flooring in the rest of the downstairs area and she thinks it will clash. Picture below of where out kitchen meets the hallway. Also we bought some more of those tiles yesterday to get more of a feel of what it'll look like. It does look pretty good but it does worry us about what type of table and appliance colours we will be able to get and really making it all look a bit drab perhaps? We are leaning towards sticking with relaying the same times the house already has as we have been unable to find any better looking light grey tiles. We do really like them.

In a backsplash you are dealing with defined amount of space; it's not what affects the overall look. If you're looking for make the kitchen seem bigger/brighter why are you choosing the lower cabinets to be dark?

The bigger the tile the better to help the space elongate. Using small tile, the one on the backslash, would not work on the floor. For a backplash, a long, thin tile (think 2x12 or 2x16) will visually elongate the space. Minimizing grout lines helps as well.
