Long, dark bedroom hallway makeover.
Comments (39)Finally finished the hall and the transformation is complete. Kept the doors but painted the architrave and all other woodwork (Farrow & Ball Dimity Eggshell). Walls (F & B Joa's White Modern Emulsion) Carpet is sisal. Window shutters California Shutter Co. Wall up/down-lighters John Lewis, as are the ceramic radiator shelf lights, painted to match wall. LED Panel 'skylights' are magical. Wired to an external Dusk 2 Dawn sensor via a relay (To transpose output to Dawn 2 Dusk) they are activated by two occupancy sensors either end of the hallway and only operate during daylight hours, thus giving the very real effect that it's daylight flooding in. The wall lights are for night time and if it only needs to be subdued lighting, then the remote controlled shelf lights are used. The flickering flame wall sconces either side of the old loft door are for amusement at best, but look nice. Now to find some suitable wall decoration and also fit a curtain and tie-back at the mid-point. That will allow guests who use the end bedrooms some night time privacy when using the bathroom down there. Thanks to all you Houzzers for your input and support!...See MoreTime to move on to the hallway.
Comments (19)Well, still nothing to report, and we are absolutely no further forward on deciding the paint colours. Last night I went into Homebase after work yet again for a couple more testers - put them up, nahhhhh. This hallway has been a complete nightmare from start to finish and I wish that we'd left it well alone. I suppose in the long-run it'll be worth it, but I'm finding it really hard to muster up any enthusiasm on it now - it's been dragging on for months. @OnePlan: Yeah, I would consider laying the stair runner myself for sure, it's not the laying that was the issue, it was the fact it'd been cut wrong that's the problem, and it looked stupid. However, at the moment, the sooner this room is done the better, I just want to see the back of it, so as the carpet place do the service, I'll happily pay a professional to do it in an afternoon, rather than me spending any more time on it. Also, I have a terrible terrible habit of injuring myself whenever I come into contact with Carpet Grippers. No matter how long or short, removing them from the floor, moving them from the floor to the rubbish container, or even from the rubbish container into the dustbin - my hands always look like I've been attacked with a cheese grater. Seriously, I am 100% certain, that at some point in time when carpet grippers are involved I will need a plaster! @Carolina: Oh don't you worry about that, I've got some scrap paper and a head-full of ideas. Another project is forthcoming (may start this weekend actually) involving an area to the side of our house currently used for dumping things (1m.80 across the back and 2m.24 to the front) Separate thread incoming :)...See MorePlinth lighting... yes or no?
Comments (18)I have under my kitchen cabinets lit green permanently. It's a £5 -£10 max waterproof RGB strip fitted with a glue gun, has a remote control. I just made sure there was a low socket in the right place when I re-wired the kitchen.... people think it cost a fortune to have done....See MoreHallway sideboard help
Comments (19)So many great ideas, love all of them and so much to think about! All of the suggestions have definitely made me think more widely about options- going to think about upcycling, check out antique centres, look at higher options which I hadn’t thought about at all and look at all the great options that have been suggested. I think I’ve definitely discounted just grey and going to try something a bit different! Thanks for the nice comments about the decoration too, we love it so far- before it had horrible old damaged laminate and a patio door with a fire escape where the big window is, which we removed and put bifold doors downstairs so we didn’t need the door anymore....See More1625 DB
