help with kitchen knob/handle placement

Would really appreciate some help on how to set out kitchen knobs/handles. Have found some beautiful hexagonal brass knobs but I know knobs are not particularly practical for e.g dishwasher, fridge etc so would like to mix them up with some equally beautiful bar handles.
Attached is kitchen plan, handles and ideas of how we would set them out. My husband thinks we should only get the bar handles as we cannot decide on how to mix up the two, but I just love the hexagonal knobs!

Comments (4)We have satin polished nickel handles on our drawers...I believe there is about 5cm each side so they are quite long. I'll try and upload a picture when I get home. Comments (23)Thanks everyone for weighing in, lots of food for thought. I'm more bothered about looks than functionality (!) so think I'll stick with the shorter handles horizontal in the middle of the doors. Looks less cluttered. Still debating about the mix on wall 1 though! @ Hazel Kindley I think I got the idea for the brass plinth from Houzz! Not 100% sure how I'm going to do it yet. Will order standard plinths with my kitchen and possibly get them wrapped in brass sheet, or I may see if I can get a fabricator to make new ones. 5 years agoNow I prefer knobs, even though I’ve got handles! That brass knob is lovely isn’t it? I’ve got a smallish galley kitchen, and on the side that has the dishwasher we put all the handles horizontal and it is absolutely fine. There’s no problem opening the cupboard doors at all. 5 years agoThanks everyone for your comments so far. Yes I think 1 knob per drawer should be fine. Really want to keep the 150 pull outs for easy access to oils etc whilst cooking so they don’t clutter the workspace.
Have made handles horizontal which I think I like better, also done one with knob on the 150 pull out and one with handle on the 150 pull out. I really like how the handle on the 150 pull outs break up the row of knobs so would probably prefer this.
Am struggling to know what to do with the dining table side of the island now, as everything I do looks a bit odd! Have changed it to 3 x 600 wide units as opposed to 2 x 900 units but I think it still doesn’t look right. Any ideas?

5 years agoThanks guys, these are my latest attempts! Tani the 2 tall non-oven units are a tandem larder and a FF. so yes rinq they will need to open right to left so have changed it. The 2 lower cupboards in the tall oven units also need to open right to left as we will be keeping big kitchen stuff like the magimix in here and I don’t fancy carting it out of the cupboard and then having to manoeuvre my way around a door to get it onto the work surface in the corner!
Now stuck what to do with the door for the corner base unit, just realised the door will have to open left to right so the handle/knob for that door will be right next to the handle/knob of the cupboard under the oven.
I did quite like putting all knobs on the front side of the island rinq but I thought it looked a bit *too* knobby so I think vertical handles for the doors? Could also put these handles horizontally and centrally

5 years agoRinq, the two tall non-oven units are the larder and the fridge-freezer. Unfortunately we cannot get the island cabinets with internal drawers as they are only 300 deep and there is only the option of high line or drawerline.
I’ve tried something alternative and put handles on drawers, knobs on cupboards and pullouts. I actually really like how it’s turned out! I paired the larder and the fridge freezer so one opens left-right and one opens right-left which I think looks better but it may interfere with the working triangle...

Attached is the configuration we are going for, but the FF/larder handles will not be that close together! Potentially might position them vertically but will see how it looks on kitchen fitting day!
Minnie we did decide we liked the bigger handles so have gone for the slightly bigger at 7inch rather than 5.3 inch, I wouldn’t go any bigger than that (partly because of cost reasons!) we are going for slightly different bar handles than what I posted previously (attached) which we like better and they are more rounded so think they will go better with the hexagonal knobs which are a little rounded.
