Change of windows in a conservation area

Has anyone gone through the process of changing from timber to 'look alike' uPVC windows in a conservation area? Is it possible?

Have a look around your neighborhood and see if anyone else has already done this. If they have then it's likely you will get permission with no problem. If not, then you can always make enquiries to your local planning/regs dept and see what they say. It varies area to area really so you can't compare it across the board

I do agree that it may be cramped with both rooms in the existing bedroom as you're constricted by the window and given the size of the old lounge I would want the en suite/dressing room to feel luxurious in terms of space. I don't know where the plumbing underneath is but you could also consider a short/fake wall in the old lounge to hide either the en suite or a dressing area. Are you looking to include a bath? Alternatively you may be able to do something with a glass wall or box in the old bedroom to give it that feeling of space but it would up the budget a lot! These images are from home stratosphere and homesdirnet. I think it really depends on what you're after from the space in the new bedroom. I do think you can get a shower room and storage in the old bedroom btw but not sure you could add a dressing table

I would suggest as others have, a bigger porch, will allow you more storage as well,particularly when it's wet outside. Also, perhaps render or paint the extension and porch to tie them together, but to do the whole thing might be too blocky and monolithic. Do the windows work for you from the inside? You might find that if, for example, you do the porch and extension in white, the windows aren't so obvious. If they don't work for you, look at making them larger and more symmetrical. They seem quite small for the house.

Sorry @Grant Lyon, none of those doors are mine, they were just examples to demonstrate what I was saying. This is my front door which I got from a random company I found on FB in 2017 called Nudoor. They seem to have now been dissolved according to Company house.

Conservation area, neighbour removed lots of trees

You need permission to remove trees with a thick trunk. Given the trees and shrubs were only 3 m high they probably weren’t classed as big enough to be protected. Tree preservation also only applies to trees. It is however likely that the fence height (including trellis) exceeds what is permitted so it might be worth you phoning the council to get your facts straight before speaking to the neighbour. Unfortunately the greenery was theirs to remove and they have no obligation to have anything to maintain your privacy or view so if you want to see greenery from your window you will have to plant things on your side of the fence.
