Decking dilemma- non-slip alternatives to wooden decking

Does anyone know of a product that looks like decking but is non-slip and doesn't require treating? I want to create a seating area accessed from French windows. It needs to be raised as it will level the garden but as it is a Victorian house the vents have to be exposed. A raised decking area would be ideal, but wooden decking would be lethal in the wet weather. Can anyone suggest an alternative product?

Hi, I have wooden decking and it does get very skippy when wet. I too am looking at replacing it. I’ve been looking at composite decking which is supposed to be non slip and virtually maintenance free, apart from cleaning now and then. There are many types, Deck Trek being one of them. My daughter has it around her holiday lodge and it looks very smart. Here’s a couple of pictures:

We had a similar dilemma with our current project. We had a lovely patio but awkward steps down from the house garden level. With our kitchen reconfiguration we put in bifolds so created a brick built upper terrace to Walk out on to. The builder tried to get us to deck but We had had similar treacherous wet slimey experiences to you in our old house so not keen. Anyway, it's not finished yet but I can see it is going to look fab. We couldn't match the York stone so have a wood effect tile to contrast. My builder reckoned it was £8k of work and materials at the start of the project but we have an all inclusive so I don't know how accurate that would have been if I'd asked for the savings and gone for decking!!

We've considered white decking but decided against it in the end. My concern was it would need very frequent re-painting and cleaning for it not to look shabby. We have quite a bit of garden furniture like fences, picnic bench, large planters made partly from decking, in Ronseal's Ash white. Because these are mainly vertical objects and obviously have no foot traffic to contend with, they stay remarkably fresh. White decking will not be so forgiving I think.

New Girl thank you for your lovely kind comments. I did Click & Collect so paid ahead and then collected the paint. I’ve just checked my local stores, nearest one in Letchworth, Herts, and many of them have about 8 cans per store, so is your store telling porkies? I would research any paints you buy as paying more doesn’t always mean better quality. Silver Birch was one I considered and it does look lovely. Good luck!

Literally just purchased the decking solution from IKEA and laid it down last weekend, it’s really good (IMO) search decking on their website. Sounds like it could be what your after and it’s easy to lay yourself.
