Comments (24)I laid my own last year. Like others, I also put sub-base down first (on top of levelled ground), compacted it (hired a machine), ensured it was level, laid sand over the top, then a good weed-proof membrane on top of that. I used one large section (to save gluing), tagged edges into the ground (around perimeter of the grass), then 'dressed' it with sharp/fine sand (many neglect this but it helps prevent flattening of the grass) -- do this when dry of course. The kids love it and, they don't get muddy! The only maintenance I've had to do so far is sweep leaves up. The garden's just about getting there (had to show pics as quite proud of the transformation!). Addition of sub-base (MOT type 1) below: Levelled, compacted, then sand laid level (and, again, compacted) on top of MOT1: Once that was done, laid weed-proof membrane on top: Grass went on top of the membrane (retained around the perimeter). 'Dressed' the grass with sharp/fine sand after that (when dry!). (Will finish adding plants when spring's properly here!)...See Morepoorly Calathea
Comments (1)No expert but if nothing has changed then maybe it needs repotting? And when you repot it needs to be only slightly bigger I believe....See MoreYukka plants or what grasses for north facing aspect
Comments (7)Looks like an Agave, but I can’t be certain! If it is they love hot sun so amazing that it’s doing so well. I have a grass called Miscanthus sinensis Zebrina (or something like that) and I’ve got it growing in a pot. Its in shade most of the day and gets a bit of sun late afternoon, It’s green with a yellow horizontal stripe. It’s about 4’ tall and has grassy tufts in late summer. It goes a pale straw colour in winter rather like ripe wheat which I leave on until spring when I cut it back almost to the ground, then up it pops again. Other plants that cope with shade are ferns and Elephants ears. A larger shade lover is Fatsia japonica, but it’s a biggie. RHS website has lots of advice on shade loving plants. Heres my Miscanthus...See Morepoorly laid floor - help with dispute!
Comments (6)Possibly caused by movement of the floor under the tiles? What are the tiles made of, and what is the sub floor underneath made of - concrete, wooden floorboards? Just that I had ceramic tiles laid over a mesh over floorboards which the tiler said was fine. Over time the tiles started to crack in places and the grouting began to crumble. The tiler had basically lied to me suggesting mesh would keep the floor level! When we re-did the kitchen we had the floor boarded and porcelain tiles on top. Been down 9 years and no problems whatsoever since then....See Moretamp75
