How would you decorate this living room?
Comments (21)Hi everyone! He's been living there over 20 years now and completely revamped the room when he first moved in (adding in the fireplace, dado rail, adding the fan design to the ceiling!). It all looked very fresh when it was first done but 20 years is a long time. The ceiling is just standard, the holes you can see are from where he's having spotlights put in. I've searched Egyptian Cotton and agree that this is a lovely warm neutral, thank you for the recommendation I will definitely let him know to check it out. I love the idea of viewing the outside window as a feature wall and incorporating these natural elements into the room, my dads house backs on to woodlands and is surrounded by trees so it's all very green out there....See MoreDo you prefer wood or metal accessories?

Comments (7)Hi there, given that the room is small, you want to maximise light and space as much as possible so would suggest opting for a lighter coloured floorcovering. In recent years we’ve seen that the new neutrals palette of putty, pencil and charcoal has firmly planted its feet as the most in-demand colour in carpet and it shows no sign of waning. The beauty of grey shades is that they are easy on the eye, don’t steal the scene and make a great base for rooms – on floors, walls, curtains or fabrics – plus they suit both period and contemporary schemes. Grey looks sophisticated too and you can choose lighter silvery shades to keep the room light! If you fancy experimenting with texture, you could opt for a lustrous deep pile or wool loop texture to give your room a different look. You can keep your grey warm with amber and burnt sienna undertones, or cooler with blush tones and icy blues mixed in. Go monochromatic and cover your entire space in grey hues, and don’t forget that white paintwork and accent colours really ‘pop’ when teamed with grey. Comments (8)I agree with all the other comments. Go for softer, warm colours on the walls. Not the brightest white, but an off-white. Also, black and red is quite a harsh, contrasting colour combination. Again, I'd go with less contrast and warmer colours. So, if you love a black sofa, go with beige and brown, maybe a touch of burnt orange, as your other colours. You'll create a much nicer, cosier room. Also, I always think it is best to not buy everything at once, and only buy what you love. Not because the shop thinks it goes well together, but because it makes you feel good. Which means that if you love the look of black, white and red, go for it. Even though we all say: don't do it :-D Also, measure! Measure and measure again! If you like a particular sofa, you can use paper or tape to put the dimensions of that sofa out on the floor so it gives you an idea of how much space it takes up. You wouldn't be the first who buys a 3-seater, matching 2-seater and big comfy chair, just to discover that you don't really have space for it. On a personal note: I'm not a fan of matching furniture sets anyway. Will you need a dining table in this room too?...See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
