gold taps and chrome shower cubicle - yay or nay?

Hi all, we are looking to get most probably brushed gold effect taps for new bathroom, so brushed gold for bath and basin taps, as well as brushed gold effect shower head, concealed valve and little handheld for separate quadrant shower. The shower cubicle itself we are looking to get has chrome fittings, we unfortunately don’t have space for a walk in shower so it has to be an enclosure.

I think it looks alright on my mood board but just wondering will the gold shower head look odd with a chrome shower enclosure? Should we go for a shower enclosure with black fittings instead? (Ignore the black shower tray and black towel rail as not 100% decided on these yet)

Black frames and smoked glass is very much on trend at the minute, more and more suppliers are adding black framed screens (esp Crittall Inspired) and black taps are this seasons big feature, not just in the bathroom either it seems to be pulling in to the Kitchen too!

Thanks bathroom trend, yet I love Crittal enclosures but don’t thing you can get a quadrant Crittal style enclosure! We did think about black taps but would like something with a little colour and warmth I think. Also trying to avoid black where possible because of limescale!

Well, the chippies van was up the drive when I got home from work - a little unexpected. At first I thought that he was sleeping with the Mrs, but then I remembered that he needed to finish the skirting boards. He's done a cracking job - quite a few tricky internal/external corners, plus the corners not being exactly 90 degrees he was back and forth to his saw all the time. He really did a stirling job. It was 13 meters of skirting in total - which took him 4.5 hours in total (over 2 evenings) and it cost me £90. Considering I was origionally going to do it, it could well be the best £90 I've spent on this whole kitchen. I need to get a lick of paint inside the alcove that's pictured. Our little fishtank will be returning in there, but as it's out I may as well do it. When we get the bar stools, and dining room table & chairs I will update again. So: What would I change/add/remove ADD - Somewhere to hang the tea-towels. We have some on the inside of a cuboard, but they keep falling off. Maybe I need some slightly more expensive 'hangers'. The space where they could have gone we put a spice rack/draw thingie - that's probably better though. ADD - We forgot about the bin! Now we have our pedal-bin basically kicking around the kitchen. The Mrs has already filled the cupboards to maximum capacity so I'm having trouble getting an internal cupboard one past her. I think I may just fit one then deal with her later. The bin has gravitated to a semi-perminant place, but with the kids trying to be *cough* helpfull the wall is already beginning to get the odd splatter of 'stuff' where they just throw their food in the general direction of it. Last night I said 'Well, why don't we just put it in the utility room' - She shot that idea down instantly as she obviously isn't happy about the extra 4 steps that it would take to walk all-that-way into another room. Poor thing! Typical woman lol. ADD - At the start of the project I would have got the electricians to chase in another mains wire from the fusebox so that it comes out of the kitchen wall centrally to the back garden, then I would put a PIR Security Light in. I know that it's not a big job by any means, and I could, and probably will, do it myself over the coming weeks but if I could have had it without a wire on the outside of the house then that'd would have been perfect. Also, thinking about it, I would have actually got him to do it at the front of the house as well as he re-wired the whole downstairs with new fusebox etc.

Hi Senspasce and thank you my husband works for a large tile manufacturer and the tiles where purchased on slight seconds and a great tiler who works all over the world did the tiling beautifully. The design was copied from the company brochure so I knew it was foolproof design in its day which was over 20yrs ago so not done so bad really certainly had my moneys worth. The window is very heavily obsurced glass with leaded design so does not need blinds which cannot be fitted as casement to window is not deep enough I have had curtain treatment on expandable rod but like the light and openness. I prefer a bath we use to have shower on bracket with a shower curtain when I had new mixer and taps I did away with them to open the room up and getaway from water mold building up we use bath mat on floor when showering and not a problem with no screen a lot less cleaning too never a problem without them.

It looks great Sam! I love the cabinet, and the flooring choice too, you’d never know it was lino. We have Lino in our utility room, its so easy to keep clean...lovely and warm and soft under bare feet too! You must be so pleased with it, everything works together really well.

Thanks Emanuelle. I do like those. I've got a high maintenance ensuite (my choice!) so easy maintenance in here is good particularly with the fun of cleaning under the bath! Thanks, the mirror was from Zara, I've just looked and it's on sale ATM for £50 :)

I think it can work, but perhaps there's an option of an enclosure that has lesser amount if chrome details.

Below is an example of two different finishes used alongside. I know it's an enclosure you can't have, but just to visualise the principle.

This is the closest we come i.e black frame quadrant or you can have it with smoked glass

Sometimes a trend colour doesn’t work for me and those black shower quadrants really stand out! Not in a good way

Thanks guys, think overall as just the shower cubicle, I much prefer the chrome over black, but when you add in a gold shower head, I prefer black over chrome!

Wondering whether should get shower head in chrome but bath tap and basin tap in gold (exactly same style), then can get chrome shower - or is that going to look even more odd?

Thanks for the photos, I’m struggling to find pictures showing gold showerhead and chrome enclosure!
