Brass light switches with plastic plug sockets?

Hello, need to pick a style of switch and plug socket for my renovation.

The house is a substantial 1920s house. I love the look of the aged or polished brass toggle style switches for the lights, which would also blend in nicely with the original door handles which I’m keeping, but the brass plug sockets don’t look so great in my opinion.

Is it ok to have the brass light switches but make the sockets, (which apart from the kitchen are all low level) the bog-standard white plastic or would this look weird?

Any advice welcome

We have used Buster & Punch fittings on renovation projects, we have found them to be high quality and easy to deal with.

I'd definitely recommend spending a little extra and having the Brass sockets to match the Togle Light switches. I worked for a client in Norfolk, who had everything matching with togle switches too,(you can see pics on my projects page) and the difference between the standard white sockets to having the matching Brass, is undeniable, and makes the space looking 'finished' as apposed to maybe changing in future.

Some prefer the more discrete look of a clear sockets or white socket on a light wall, but if there's budget, and you're drawing the eye already to the togle switch and I'm assuming you like the Brass colour in this room, why not add this with other sockets and accessories etc.

Thanks for all the help, for anyone who is interested in the outcome in the future I found some in a place called tlc direct and bizarrely it was a brushed chrome finish in a make called Knightsbridge that came up as a good match against my aged pewter door knobs! Lots of the other pewter sockets were quite flat in colour whereas the aged pewter has flecks in it so they just didn't seem to work together. There is also a really lovely make called Finesse that does pewter electric fittings. Very expensive though. Thanks again!

Hi Karen, are you looking for polished chrome or brushed chrome? Brushed chrome looks good even on a budget and finger prints tend to be less visible. White all the way, unless you have dark coloured walls. If you want something smarter than white plastic, check out Focus Horizon metal flat plate range in matt white finish. Satin stainless steel can look good in kitchens

I have the same dilemma as you Pamela and I think I am veering towards brass sockets with black inserts even though my walls will be pale. Echoing the previous comment, I think it would look better to match.

I think it's actually preferable to make the switches a feature and to make the low level sockets as discrete/invisible as possible. why would you want to draw attention to them? so yes OK to have then white on pale walls and even have darker on dark walls for the same reason. it budget were no option you can even purchase 'clear' sockets that take on the background colour and even allow for wallpaper to show though - so they disappear!
