Has anyone painted fitted wardrobes?
Comments (24)Just another idea for you, but one that some clever person did in my apartment in Rome. (Before I moved in, of course) They had Wall papered the doors and cupboards with thick vinyl wall paper and added the push close catches for the doors. So you just pushed the door and it popped open and pushed it closed to catch shut again. It looked stunning! Just another thought for you... :)...See MorePainting Idea: For Wardrobe [Unknown Material]
Comments (26)Just used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White on a solid pine unvarnished wardrobe. I watched YouTube tutorials and got advice from the shop that sold me the paint. I HATE it! Really difficult to work with, paint brush drags making my hand ache. I was told 1 or 2 coats would do but had to use 3 and I can still see the wood through it. I was told it would only use up half a pot of paint, but it has used nearly all of it. The chap who advised me (sells painted furniture for a living) said it can be finished with wax (hard work) or a Matt varnish (easier). He showed me furniture in these finishes and I chose the varnish. It was really easy to apply but has accentuated the wood colouring underneath. I'm so annoyed that after all my hard work it looks pretty rank. I wish I had used traditional primer and satinwood paint instead!...See Morewhat Colour Finish wardrobe door knobs looks best with Dark walnut?
Comments (3)Of course this is down to your taste. If you want the knobs to stand out then look to brass (which would look good on the wood or polished nickel which is softer than chrome. If you want them to merge in then go for darker woods such as our ebony ones. For something amazing then look to glass. Comments (4)What are the door made of? are they solid wood? Is that a veneer finish? I’d sand off the old finish, prime with Zinsser 1-2-3 and finish with 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White. You can get the Perma-White mixed to different RAL colours online. Pop on some new handles and hey presto! Personally I’d get rid of drawers, keep the mirror and fit in a worktop off-cut in there with a nice chair and wall lamp or spots above the dressing table. You could further modernise the doors by mounting them so they fit flush. You’d have to change the hinges to those similar to kitchen cabinet hinges. What are your plans for the rest of the room?...See Morerinked
