Hi - I'm looking to do something similar in my house. Can the siding back be done after the shelf units are placed? Or, is it better to put it on the wall first?
We are thinking of doing that part of the project ourselves to save on cost

Very few designers on this forum care for shiplap. I like it, but am not a "designer". I would say strip the wall first and then apply the shiplap. Shiplap is the houzz designers cryptonite....

Hi Jeanne, We believe shiplap is a fun way to add character to your house in a simplistic clean way. We think you're on the right track! As for a DIY project–it would all depend on how your unit is constructed. Are the shelves attached to the wall or in a unit that can be moved? I just need a little more clarification to help answer your question. Love to hear about your DIY spirit!

Hello All, hope you're having a lovely Saturday - just saw Wales win their first Euro 16 match; very happy, now waiting for England. Quick update: cut the grass on a high setting following advice and did some weeding. Decided to jet wash the patio but found that my garden hose had holes in it. Had to dash, in the rain, to Poundstretcher to get a new one. I've never used a jet wash power and had a little taster. See below. Tomorrow, I hope to wash the patio properly but it's hard work. Tommy Turtle's looking a lot better and you can the slabs that I've done so far. Think I need to sweep first as the moss was flying everywhere! A little comparison, of what can be. Hopefully, I will post the results tomorrow. How is everyone getting on with their projects? Keep posting!

Hi Claire ! Adding some thoughts .... If the carpet is going - try to replace it with something equally sound deadening - as otherwise his late night games with the lads will keep everyone below up - with all that pacing and pondering before a shot ! Re decision to go for industrial or gentleman's club - (luckily the lamp will suit either) - which of the two fits in better with the other rooms that lead to or will be enjoyed by guests prior to entering this one.... and which style might you expect from the exterior of the house ? Do you want cohesion with the rest of the home - or is the the wild card room ? If the table is to be the main feature of the room - then don't go too dark on your lower paint colour or it wall blend in too well. But if this IS the effect - then perhaps try ALL graphite - ceilings too ( try a paint a photo app and see if this works for you ) Then add brighter bar seating and warm lighting in that area to make that the prominent piece . Add a separately switched strong white light to aim at the dart board - and I you do go for panelling here too- I'd suggest you mount the dartboard on a layer of either cork or dark rubber matting. I'd suggest, to keep the feel of a billiards room, only light the bar area, and have low lamps in each corner of the room, that can be switched off individually if they interfere with a shot. Nb. As the ceiling is so low - I'd suggest the bar be in the front of the window - so the players can stand upright in that bit much easier. Hope that helps a bit !

White or grey windows?

I went for painting the whole of the bottom ( or render and paint -) in a warm dark brown / grey to tie in with the dark in the brick. On my screen Ral 8019 worked well. I then went either with keeping the windows white as it still works or going with a lighter beige / grey to tone in with the Ral on the walls. I also paved the driveway in a complementing stone, added a trellis in the same colour as the windows to make more sense of the bland space at the front, where you would presume a door to be.

Tilly, it may be worth considering removable wallpaper. We used it as a “temporary” DIY backsplash/ kitchen wall solution when the first COVID lockdown cut our kitchen remodel short…. We entered lockdown with a new kitchen that looked almost exactly like your picture! (Although thankfully they rushed to get our sink and appliances done in time.) But it has been so terrific and we’ve gotten so many compliments, we’ve kept it and love it. We used the NuWallpaper “Reclaimed Shiplap” paper with our own light grey cabinetry, white carrera workshops and upstands.
