Hello,
Such a lovely delightful garden. I really like the paving stone and its colour. Please could you let me know what this is and where it is from. What is the paving stone laid on please? Thanks very much.

Thank you. The paving is blue grey granite and it is from Londonstone.

We have a brick house with mottled red bricks. We have recently paved a huge area with grey sandstone which is very consistent in colour. The cool grey looks really effective next to the warm brick colour and we are now doing the front with the same. We considered slate, but it is either very dark or mottled and we wanted something which had the right tone. I will send a picture if I can.

Hi Rachel. Yes, Limestone chips in between. I've moved the slabs further away to give more space from the shed as they were too close before. Than you very much for your ideas re: the path etc. Will definitely work on those ideas including the patio sticking out further. The only issue with your plan it the path on right wouldn't work arcing that way as teh 'entrance' to the garden is more towards the middle (where you see the small sleeper acting as a step) - please see pics for what I mean. It would work the opposite way so the middle bit is touching the fence (or any alternative ideas?). :)

Granite or sand stones for patio?

Hello Ataka, If you are after a hard wearing material that doesn't require sealing, then I would stay away from sandstone, as it's more porous and more brittle than granite. Regarding the slip resistance, you can get granite with a textured face finish, such as brushed or flamed and brushed (I wouldn't recommend flamed only, as it's as rough as sandpaper for the first few years). For the colour choice, some granite come in brown and black colours, which will be softened and lightened once the textured finish is applied. If you are after some cost-effective options, I would choose a standard black granite from India or Zimbabwe, but if you want to splash out a bit more money for a more impressive effect, then I would pick something different with a bit of character, such as Prada Gold or similar ones Hope this helps!

Looks like rust staining which can happen with sandstone and other natural stone. Try the website www.thepavingexpert.com which gives lots of advice. Their returns policy does not seem to comply with Distance Selling Regulations. When buying something online and unseen, you have the right to return the item without even giving a reason, as long as it is done within 30 days. These are your statutory rights. This doesn’t apply with underwear, pillows and personalised items but pretty much everything else. Obviously paving is more difficult to return but they must have a system for dealing with this and it must crop up sometimes. I would contact the Citizens Advice for help and further advice. I do hope it is sorted soon.
