I would make a feature of it; it adds character and structure and takes the eye sweepingly along and up which is good for adding a sense of space. Could you paint it a colour that ties in with something else - the flooring or a rug, for example? Or you could put patterned wallpaper or a different colour paint below and a lighter shade above it. You could also hang pictures in the feature shapes above though if they aren't original I'd be tempted to get rid of them. I'd move away from the rather feminine and twee decoration and make it bolder, stronger.

I agree with Minnie. Paint colour last. Try to get swatches of everything and look at them in your home, in different lights (day and night). It's amazing how different colours look in different lights. So what looks like grey in the shop, might look purple in your home. Also, hold the swatches together and hold the swatches in the direction they are going in. For example: carpet horizontal, sofa fabric vertical and horizontal, curtains vertical. Unslotted waste because there is no overflow hole. Choose one in a finish that matches your chosen taps. Bottle trap goes under the sink, in that space where they’ve shown folded towels and soaps. It will be visible so choose a nice one that matches your taps. The one in the picture clearly isn’t plumbed in. You will see there are two holes in the shelf which are to allow space for the bottle trap (if it hangs down that far) and the pipework to the taps - this pipework is also not shown in the picture. You may want to discuss with your builder/fitter/plumber how they plan to do the pipework so it looks ok. You can get decorative pipe collars in eg chrome effect that will look better than exposed copper pipe, or paint the pipes. Or you can get the pipes chased into the wall but that will be more expensive especially if it’s a solid wall.
