what can i do with these large pots?
Comments (5)Great pots! I think it's a great idea to have them on either side of your front door, it will make it feel very regal! What you put in them depends completely on the style of your house/front garden. The classic option would be ball topiaries like bay trees and you can then add more colourful flowers or plants at its base that overflow a little like this: I would definitely not paint the pots though. And if you go for an "overflow" option I would try to keep it mild so it doesn't totally hide the shape of the shape of the pots as they look nice. Hope that helps! Comments (9)Hi annavall, yes the Cistus is in my garden. The raised pond is a recent addition and it came as a flat pack kit. Has to be painted before assembly so a bit of work, but the tank inside it is excellent quality, very tough. ill try and upload the pics I couldn’t upload yesterday! Ceanothus is gorgeous and there are many types, but mine is evergreen and will get tall, which I want. Another great evergreen is Viburnum, loads of different species, all with lovely flowers. If you have acid soil, you could grown Camellias, Rhodendrons or Pieris, but they suffer in an alkaline chalky soil. Comments (10)Not sure where you are located, but beware of a caterpillar infestation that is decimating Box plants. If caught early, they can survive - but in my SE London neighbourhood all Box have been destroyed in a matter of about 2 weeks. So if you start to see brown/dead patches act quickly! The weed fabric with bark mulch will help a lot, you'll want some big garden "staples" to hold the fabric in place. Then, when adding new plants (like the hardy geranium), use a Stanley knife to cut an X in the fabric, fold back the triangles, and plant the geranium. Trim the excess fabric to go right up to the plant stem, then replace the mulch. You may get some little weeds on top of the fabric, but these lift away easily....See Morewhat do do with this space?
Comments (18)Design rule: Never look at any small space in a room as separate to that space. Design that area into the room. The idea of bringing that area level to top level is ideal. If it cannot 'loadbear' play around with ideas to still do that, but keep weight low. Keep any addition of 'pattern' or proportions to bare minimum and connect that to the greater area. Any single item put there, eg urn will look random, we wd call them 'plonkers', put there because the designer couldnt think what to do with a space. 'Plonked' there. Remember plantpots atop manhole covers on folks' front lawns? The thing put there to cover the manhole cover up, drew your eye to a plonked item. Replace banisters with something to your taste. Do not make yr banisters a curly eye catching feature. You could clad them, or go to reclamation yard, or research banister options....See MoreDaisy England
