Hello Claudia, Speaking from an art on walls point of view, I'm loving the challenge, so I present a few choice pieces for the wall above your two armchairs that I think will be a happy compliment to your existing decor and furnishings: As regards the picture above your piano, the colours work well with your room but you don't like the subject, right? If that's the case, this consideration will have to be a decision based on what subject(s) you really like or are quite sentimental to, as opposed to colour matching an art piece just to fit in with the rest of the room. If you do play the piano, musicians are very sentimental people, so you want something above the piano that you can "feel and connect to" when you're sitting there playing. It has to be sentimental to you, irrespective of what it is and what colour it may be, and not to consider it as part of the rooms overall decor. The problem is the stark cold white walls against the soft warm browns of the fireplace. I don't recommend going all beige but try colours from the same warm spectrum as the fireplace and I think you'll find it looks more natural in the space. Also, the round candles don't work with the squares and oblongs of the fireplace; find other accessories that enhance rather than scream at the shapes and colours and that could make a huge difference. So could a mirror or picture above it - it would shift the focus so the fireplace doesn't dominate. Work with it, not against, then judge it. These fireplaces are handsome; trying to pretty them doesn't work.

I saw something similar in John Lewis a few years ago but thought I could replicate it for a fraction of the cost ..... And it worked. I bought an inexpensive square stretched canvas on a frame from The Range. I painted the whole lot with left over emulsion paint then made a circle template with paper to cover the edges. I then spattered three colours of metallic paint over it by having the canvass flat on the floor and flicking the paint off a brush from above. The end result looked very professional and everyone admired it. It would still be up today had it not got damaged during a house move.

In the world of art always make sure you like what you buy. If you think of art as an investment, it could be a sour experience. Love the artwork you acquire. There will be no regrets later. The following works went at different price levels, prices in random order. One was around £5k, another on the £10k and a third one for just under £20k. Have fun guessing. All of them good South American artists.
