NEED HELP IDENTIFY BONSAI

Hi,

I'm new to bonsai trees and have no experience with them whatsoever. My father just brought me home this bonsai and I'm trying to look up some information on care etc. However I have no idea what kind of tree it is, there was no tag or anything with it just the price and 'small bonsai'. I'm also a bit worried since the leaves look curled? I would be very grateful if someone could tell me what kind is it so I can research how to care for it.

These are lovely and I can see why you wanted to keep them. Unfortunately the chances of you finding an exact match 'off the shelf' are pretty slim. They were almost certainly produced using wet plaster in situ by a local craftsman using moulds and templates unique to them. So realistically your options are to either remove the remaining cornicing and choose something similar to replace (easy and relatively affordable). Or to find a company who will come out and create a custom template from one of the existing sections. They will then either create new sections and repair or remove completely and start from scratch. Fortunately you have enough of both the rose and cornice to do this if you want absolute accuracy. If you decide to replace with similar styles I would look for places that can provide 'wet' plaster as this is easier to work when installing. I've used this company before to order samples and they were very helpful. Thank you, Printesa and T Grey, I didn’t see your messages until now. It’s been 2 months since we bought it and I am still not over the shock of being so lucky to wake up and see that view every day. We’ve been busy, very busy actually, trying to find tradesmen to sort out some things. Firstly, we discovered 5 wasps nests and (unfortunately but necessary) had them destroyed by this very chatty guy. Then we noticed some gutters were blocked and had another chatty chap around to clean them. Then came the chimney sweeper, the guy who is going to sand&varnish the floors, the painter-decorator, electrician, and so on. Plus we ‘inherited’ a gardener (thank the gods!) I was having nightmares thinking about maintaining all that garden on my own. Also, our architect friend agreed to take on the barn renovation and already submitted a pre-application plan to the council. So everything is on track; however I am ‘not allowed’ (says Andrew) to buy any furniture until the interior renovations are done, I had to restrict myself at getting tableware and bedding and towels (John Lewis had wonderful stuff on sale last month). I’ll probably start pestering this forum soon! I’m rubbish at choosing blinds and curtains and the likes, plus I am unclear about how to furnish a couple of rooms. Ok, Looks like what you've got is a cast iron hob insert, its a ‘fire place’ but not a ‘fire surround’ eg the mantel. its a shame to get rid of it but its yours to do with. the grateing looks to match the main hob but I doubt the pressed front plate is original, in fact with the moulding at the base of the grate bars I doubt it ever had one. As for value its hard to say, its cracked which is an issue but its a lovely casting, rather then selling it yourself you could sell it to a reclamation yard, you wont get as much as selling yourself but it WILL sell rather then knocking around. Also just be warned; NEVER transport it flat, cast iron can't take it, if you have to transport it always stand it up unless you want alot of pretty cast scrap. age wise it looks vaguely regency in style but I suspect its later, maybe 1860's on
