Help with lounge furniture please
Comments (9)I was going to suggest locating the tv to the bar area until I read your comment - then I read about cable trunking! So... I'm sticking to the suggestion of locating the tv under the stairs. That would truly free up the room so that you could keep it fairly open for now with just a sofa and maybe a couple of huge bean bags for the kids but could add further seating as the kids get older. You have a gorgeous light filled room there, so I would use an L shape right hand sofa. That way the patio doors are kept free for the light to flood in and for you to open in the sumer to create a flowing indoor/outdoor space. I would also keep the style of the sofa as slimline as possible in order for the space to feel larger and use modern glass side tables for the room to feel spacious and uncluttered keeping the feeling of lightness. I've attached a couple of links to Dwell which have some sofas I think would look great in your space. The space under the sofa could be used for storage or kept vacant to further create the illusion of spaciousness in the room. Sofa 1: http://dwell.co.uk/102841 The following is in sections which can be used with or without a centre unit - this would allow you to play with the space http://dwell.co.uk/104327 I'm not too sure about the sizes in your room but hopefully the styles may also be something you would consider. Also, an example of the glass coffee table or side tables http://dwell.co.uk/104417...See MoreHelp! What are your top tips for shopping 2hand furniture online?
Comments (8)My biggest tip is do not do any online shopping when you've had a few, unless you want to experience the pleasure/pain of checking your eBay account to see "Congratulations you are the winning bidder" only to realise that the item is at the opposite end of the country, the seller does not arrange transport and you don't even remember why you wanted it. (Or is that just me). Other things would be to ask the seller to confirm the measurements (especially where a few millimetres difference would be critical) and hope that they can read a tape measure properly. Don't be afraid to ask for additional photographs including close-ups, if the seller can't be bothered, then don't be too sure that the item is as described, a description saying good condition can be subjective and don't forget that the camera can lie, especially with colours. If you are looking for something fairly commonplace then it can be worth waiting for it to turn up close enough to home, so that you can try to have a look before committing yourself; for the rare items you may have to take a chance, the worst case is that if you really don't like it you might have to sell it on again. And last of all, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is....See MoreOpen plan or semi open plan? Floor plan / furniture layout help please
Comments (5)Hi all, Thank you for your comments; I appreciate them! Natasha - the units you have suggested are very much what I had in mind. We will have a shaker kitchen and the media unit would also be shaker style and would have 4-6 cupboards with the TV in the middle with book shelves either side. Part of the reason we kept a partial wall was to make the space more usable. I can’t envision how the fully open plan room will be able to meet all our needs, but I am open to ideas! I feel that open plan would be more impressive, but potentially less usable. With regards to the doors. I do plan to reverse the doors both into the kitchen and family room part, but couldn’t work out how to do it on the app I used for the floor plan. It is a 1920s house and we have the original doors which we are planning to keep. We are also keeping a lot of floor space as when the table is not extended, we still have young children with lots of Lego and trains etc. I plan for these to be hidden in the cupboards at bedtime. J - we haven’t installed the kitchen but we have ordered it and paid a big deposit. Some of the units are bespoke/irregular sizes and I don’t think we would be willing to change this. I have attached a photo of our rendered kitchen plan. Thanks again for your comments. It is good to have other people’s opinions and ideas....See MoreFurniture size & layout
Comments (3)How about you have a built in set of shelves on the right of the fireplace with the TV lower. Paint the shelves the same as the rest of the walls and the wall dark to hide the TV a bit. put some small lamps in there for light at that end.Get a chaise type sofa with the return at the TV side so you can watch it with your feet up but it gives extra seating for when you want it. Your light shelves are great, keep them, perhaps tie them in with the shelf backs the same dark paint. Rug and coffee table in front of the fire. Move lamp to the space opposite the door. Under the window have some small cube seats or an ottoman to give storage and a bit of extra seating. Keep the blind as curtains may intrude into the quite clean look too much. Tall narrow plant beside the door too. Keep all the big stuff neutral and tie the wall colour in with throws and cushions. Its a nice room, good luck!...See MoreJ B
