Sprinker system or fire curtain?

We converted our loft last year and now want to have a side return extension built to create a kitchen diner. The layout of this will require either a sprinkler system or a fire curtain. I've heard scary stories of sprinkler system installations with mounting costs (eg existing water pressure not enough & additional tank having to be fitted etc) plus I'm worried about setting it off if I burn the toast! I'm interested to know about the fire curtain option but it doesn't seem very common. Has anyone out there had a fire curtain fitted? How do the costs of both compare?
