Painting Fences Advice

I used Ronseal one coat on my fences and they seem to need redoing every year. Someone recommended Creocote to me saying that as it is oil based it will last longer. Is that right? Any advice or tips gratefully received. Many thanks and Happy Easter.

Is creosote still in production? Horrible stuff that stinks to high heaven for years. It was found to be carcinogenic so no one uses it anymore. It also causes breathing and stomach problems. I find “one coat” anything never truly replaces 2 coats. Lots of people on here have used Cuprinol Garden Shades with pretty good results. It’s on offer at Wickes and B&Q at the moment. Lovely colours too.

Creosote has been replaced by creocote which is much safer apparently which is why I was wondering if anyone has used it. Thanks for your advice though. Just don't want to be painting every year ;-().

Your fencing has a cottage feel so I assume your garden is cottagey? A lot of people are painting fences black or dark grey and it does look good and it gives a more modern feel. I personally wouldn’t paint a fence in too bright a colour as it can be very overwhelming. I really like the deeper sage green colour Wild Thyme as it goes well with nature. The first picture is Wild Thyme. I think the bright colours such as the pink or blue are more for planters and pots or even a shed, rather than a fence. I think taupe shades like Muted Clay and Natural Stone can also look good. In one of the pics below someone has painted their fence in white and it looks lovely against the green planting. It really does depend on how big your garden is and the style of it. Here’s a few ideas.

Hey persoanlly I’d go for a darker colour - can Rec cuprinols silver copse- it’s like a denim colour- makes plant colours pop i think the colour you have draws the eye and draws the wrong attention - make a deeper / sweeping border in front of a dark shade and it will add depth and sense of soace I’d paint the side one the same dark colour and train a climber along it good luck !

I’d say no. If he wants 4” of your land he can buy it from you! It’s possible to remove concrete posts, or they could reposition the posts so they come at different points along the boundary to the concrete ones. Sounds like they are after the cheapest, least hassle option for them. You don’t have to take this. Stand your ground (literally!)

Pretty boring painting a fence, isn’t it? Didn’t realise they changed one letter in the name, but needs must. Hopefully you will get more suggestions.

B&Q Valspa decking paint, much harder wearing than fence paint, as it's designed for foot traffic, and more colour choices.

The thing you do have to consider is the UK climate, plants creating shade and rubbing on the panels in the wind. This all creates wear and dirty marks, something you have to put up with.
