Lounge/diner dilemma

We are moving into a new house, bigger than our current one and want to keep our lounge furniture. The new house has an open plan lounge/dining room. Should we match the wood furniture with the dining table? Or would it look fine it being different? Our colour scheme is greys and the current furniture is a light oak, I quite like the idea of a darker table but sticking with grey for chairs. Any advice would be fab! I just can’t picture it.
