Shoe storage ideas!
Comments (11)I have a folly for shoes, but although I love the designs, I never get to wear them (don't work well on building sites!)However, my dream is to find a way to display some lovely shoes in a living room as a 3d piece of art (which some of them are and do cost as much!!) and frankly I prefer to gaze at them and dream then actually wear them and suffer!...See MoreStorage of shoes!
Comments (20)I have seen these stairs via various links for a long time now. I think they are great BUT only if they self close. Imagine someone grabbing shoes on their way out late at night then in the night you go downstairs - only one of the stairs is an open drawer 1/2 full of shoes. Is it crash, bang, wallop or are there a couple of extra bangs and crashes to add in there? I think I would add small lights in each drawer that come on when the drawer opens (there are little LED units that are activated by them being moved away from the metal/magnet bit like the burglar alarm sensors you have on doors and windows. Apart from lighting the contents of the drawers it would also alert anyone coming down stairs that they are open. For us though 2 or 3 stair drawers wouldn't be enough. We have a shoe "cabinet" that is from IKEA. It stands about 7 feet tall and has 4 wardrobe doors. Unlike one commenter above who had to cut down wardrobe carcasses to do this here in Malaysia IKEA sells wardrobe carcasses in 3 depths - including the one we have for shoes that is just the right depth. IKEA even have all the slanting shelves etc. (we initially also had some pull out frames with vertically mounted shoe trees to hold your shoes. I don't recommend these. Stick to either shelves or slanted racks) Sadly, 7 feet high by 8 feet wide still isn't really enough. Granted the highest shelf behind 2 doors of the cupboard is reserved for shopping bags/freezer bag etc. but I only use about 1/4 of the now overflowing cupboard and there are only two of us. Any idea why this would be the case anyone? (luckily my wife won't be reading this - I hope!)...See MoreTwo rooms knocked in to one big living room! Design dilema
Comments (7)I think this room is brilliant (not only because of the potential of the size) because it gives you the chance to have two areas with different purposes. One for sitting on front of the fire/chatting to guests and a second for cosying up with your partner on front of the TV. Agreed with Ellie. On the left side, you could have another sofa (or armchairs) perpendicular to the fireplace, with a coffee table and armchair opposite. I like your idea of having two carpets: One under the coffee table, the other opposite the fireplace on far side. I would add a long side board (maybe an oak cupboard, with 4 freestanding legs) in the left corner for shoes, hats etc. It can change purpose if you decide to move it in future. You could add a fancy coat rack (or wall mounted coat hooks) between the two doors on the right. Are there options to put this beside your front door? In between the fireplaces I think a bookshelf would look lovely. If you’re more a kindle fan than a real book fan, use it for your favourite pictures you haven’t had the chance to hang, and vases and pots. You could map this out before buying more furniture, using newspapers or magazines roughly the same size. (Or use the Houzz feature “view in your room” to test furniture you like on the website in the areas). Also get yourself a measuring tape- this will prove indispensable when looking at furniture before packing it off home to find it doesn’t fit. I realise I rambled off a lot there so I hope this makes sense. I just saw so much potential in this room. Hopefully you manage to get it just how you like....See MoreBoot room storage
Comments (0)Turned a spare room in a barn conversion into a multi use space. Storage for shoes / coats etc with a nice open display in 2 areas in oak to give a nice contrast against the blue. Low level bench to sit at to put shoes on or just sit back and enjoy the space. Really enjoyed making this project fully designed and made by myself from start to finish....See Moreminnie101
