hardwearing tile?

Hi there. I love these tiles.
Do they need a special sealant and are they suitable for a high traffic area like a hallway?
Thanks for any advice.

Yes, you do need to seal the tiles. We provide an installation guide with orders for your tiler to follow.

They do tiles that look (and I believe made) from brick so could find some which match existing. If you want like Hardie weathers boards this wouldn't cost much for such a small area. Especially if install yourself. Easier than you think for a simple area like this, there are YouTube videos. I want to do my detach but is 4 sides, 2 levels, corners, windows etc, so won't be doing myself and been quoted £17K! But I have about 20x more area to cover so my guess it this would cost you £1K.

Hi Tricia. I agree with the other comments that painting kitchen cabinets is a lot of work and I don’t think you would be better pleased with the end result. Some cabinets can take painting better than others. For a different idea you could extend the wall cabinets almost up to the ceiling by either finding extra wall units or if you’re handy with diy creating them yourself. Then replace doors with some mdf panels which you can then prime/paint yourself (see pics below for the kinda thing I was thinking of). Mdf doesn’t cost all that much but if you’re not confident with cutting or drilling hinge holes then a local joiner could do this for you. Wouldn’t normally recommend painting tiles but if it’s just short term then it’s maybe worth a try. I wouldnt use any wood panels behind a gas hob tho, might be a fire risk.

I would just paint up to dado height. The 2nd photo has dado rails which you don’t need but just showing you the radiator painted and taking it up the stairs. I’d also paint the skirting boards and you want to paint around 1/3 of the wall height. I’ve used Little Greene intelligent eggshell which would be fine for dirty paws (oil can be a little stubborn) but think I will be trying Sarah’s Mylands recommendation next given how Matt it is.

just do the upstands to start with - you can always remove them and replace with tile later. tell the installer that you might want to do that so that he doesn't get lazy and leave a big gap at the back of the worktop (which the upstaged might be thick enough to cover but a tile might not). given the open shelves and the empty space in the corner, deciding how far up to up install the tiles will be a whole other question. upstand only certainly seems the neatest option for the moment - but you will be wiping the walls instead of wiping tiles!
