POLL: What's your kitchen worktop material?
Comments (127)Another vote for Dekton and Sileston Quartz worktops, use them all the time in our projects as so much more forgiving and low maintenance than granite or marble. Agree that Corian is a good option if you have a large island to prevent visible joins, whilst it has other benefits you do need to be very careful when it comes to heat. Vast range of colours and textures in all types nowadays so the type of material shouldn't limit the effect you want to achieve - be that traditional or contemporary. I am always a big advocate that a worktop is an investment, there is no point spending a large sum on a beautiful quality kitchen and then finishing it off with a worktop that won't stand up to time as well as the rest of the room or cheapen the look - I always recommend to go for the best you can afford....See MoreWhat are your house rules for pets?
Comments (62)@Christa Taylor. Most aggression in dogs tends to be fear based. She is basically telling everyone to go away. Have you had her all her life? There is a crucial socialisation period where a puppy needs to meet all sorts of people and other animals so that she gets used to them. However, some dogs are still fearful despite this socialisation and it is part of their inherited personality. How old is your grandson? If he is older, he could try feeding her tasty snacks so that she gets used to him and sees him as less of a threat. He needs to wait for her to approach, never the other way round. He mustn't try to stroke or pick her up as he could get bitten. Now i could suggest a Dog Behaviourist, but there are so many charlatans out there as it is un-regulated so tread carefully. Your little Chi probably won’t change, but you can manage her safely with help, I do know of a very good Behaviourist in Herts who also carries out Consultations for Wood Green Animal Shelter in Cambs if you want her details?...See MoreOpinion for living room / dining room, Please!!!
Comments (15)I like the room. Personally I would go for a dark colour on the tv wall so the tv etc blends in. Rather than buy a new rug I would spend the money on a cane and rattan chair, there are a few around ATM at really reasonable prices and you can pick up velvet curtains cheaply. I would also add another large plant. I couldn't get a wall colour similar to the one in the other pic but maybe look at something like this or just the cabinet colour. When budget allows I would add an arc lamp behind the sofa and a table lamp on the sideboard as this will add to a cosy feeling....See MoreCan I use room above garage as bedroom
Comments (2)It needs to be fire safe according to building regs. That doesn’t mean just a fire escape window, it’s not that simple. You will need at least FD30 fire rated staircase, ALL doors before this FD30 as well as an FD30 door either at the top or bottom of the stairs. FD hinges. Smoke seals. Smoke alarms (ideally mains with battery back up). The stairs need to be enclosed with FD material, you cannot have an open staircase for obvious reasons with how smoke and fire spreads. Also ensure adequate ventilation in there & check the staircase isn’t too steep according to building regs. This sounds a lot. But a couple died sleeping in a loft room only last year. Just because there’s a fire escape window does not make the room habitable or safe by any means. Contact your local building control dept for advice. The whole aim is to slow the spread of fire & smoke down with fire rated doors & staircase, to give the fire brigade a chance to arrive and safely rescue you. Climbing out on to a roof of a burning house may be possible for you but with no adequate control, the fire & smoke will soon catch you up. That’s if you’re even lucky to be awake/conscious from inhaling smoke. Remember, smoke kills. Please do not sleep in this room without it being checked off by building control....See Moreminnie101
