How can we improve our lounge?
Comments (12)I'm not sure making the fireplace look heavier would be a good idea. However rather than fight the off centre I would work with it. Possibly wall hang the TV to the right of the fireplace it looks as if that would make it quite good for viewing from the sofa. Get a bigger rug which would still be off centred but would pull in/integrate the soa area more. I wouldn't put the TV in front of the window as the blockage of the view could feel negative and if the sun shines through during the day difficult to see TV without drawing curtains. What about a mirror above the fireplace you seem to have a window at each end of the space so a mirror could act like a third window reflecting light and giving weight to that are away from the TV. A window seat could work nicely....See MoreLive Chat with Dulux Amazing Space: How to find your style
Comments (91)Hi @lexoo2020 Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay in responding to you, we are just getting to grips with Houzz so it has taken us a little longer that we would have liked to get back to everyone. Have you thought about using paint to create some feature elements on your wall? This way you can introduce your favourite colours in the room while creating some beautiful décor. You can paint a hexagon pattern on one of your walls as shown in the video below; just replace the colours with the ones you like and that will complement your room’s colour scheme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSLT9XYkdO4 Alternatively, how about making a collage of your favourite pictures in frames of various sizes and colours? This way you can include all your favourite moments and people in your room while still styling your space. The image below can give you an idea of how to mix and match to create the perfect look! If you would like some extra storage, why don’t you try some floating shelves? You can decorate them with your favourite accessories, and by adding a pop of colour on the edge, as the picture shows below, you create interest in your room in a subtle way....See MoreLounge help please - alcove
Comments (16)Yes, that's what I meant Rachelmidlands. If there is no fire, I popped in the very more unusual idea of mounting the TV low and dress around that with mantel and mirror above it... not seen it done, but was a thought. After all, there are a lot that complain about achy necks if the tv is mounted too high, Mines 65" and starts 1.2m up the wall and our necks are fine, but that may be due to the size. MATH's layout above with the built in cupboards with a tv in the corner is the classic usual, which is tried an tested, but I would personally make the height of the units flow from the height of the window sill. Does the furniture have to face that way? I assume it's a square room with the picture taken from the door way at the corner. Could there be a couch in front of the window, and another on the wall to your left facing the chimney breast, with the tv flush wall mounted on the right, opposite the window? That would free up the the nuisance chimney breast wall to create anything you like, surface, seating, fireplace... The gadget boxes could be housed high up on the right alcove, and take the cabling up through the cieling and back down to the tv. Its not an easy solution I'm not very conformist :) ... the tv certainly wouldnt be the focal point then....See Morealcove help on a long wall
Comments (58)The access door would have to be moved forward a bit and be made narrower to accommodate it. I was discussing it with the husband tonight as we could potentially cut another door from the other side (ie what wil be the 2nd bedroom) and hide that in a wardrobe as secret storage area. The opening would have to be narrow but still wide enough to walk theough but you wouldnt see it from the bedroom then. Got to get a price though as its brick on the other side and it would need a lintel. Nothing is ever straight forward. Ha ha...See MoreAt No 19
