Furniture Design Dilemma Living Rooms

Help required with cushions

hi all , please can you help with some ideas and selection of cushions for my living room ...I want to bring in some colour now through the selection of some nice colourful cushions ..but dong know where to start...I have added some pics below...I do have curtains on my window now in champagne colour .....

Please let me know guys your ideas and suggestions..thanks

Hi Sonika, it’s a lovely room. I love the accent wall. I’d go for a burnt orange and deep navy colour scheme to compliment your sofas.

A larger area rug would look better. The sofas need to slightly sit on the rug, then the space will feel together. It also a good idea to get a rug that follows the wallpaper pattern.

The wallpaper has a dynamic pattern so I’d go for big and bold pattern on cushions. Textured and soft (like velvet, knitted fabric) on leather sofas and bold and flat (linen, cotton, silk) for the light sofa.

If you've got the time and the inclination (and budgets are tight) I reckon it's worth giving the paint a go to see how it looks. Lots of the kitchens we're doing for clients now are ones with painted finishes and although (as mentioned above) this isn't the most classic style/a bit old fashioned it will look completely different painted. New handles... save up for the kitchen you really want!

Hi, the room mostly looks airy & calming. I think the difficulty is the sofa which is so dark compared to most of the rest of the furnishings. If you’d had some natural wood furniture it would have helped blend the light & dark tones. However, I like your white furniture & think some pattern, eg monochrome patterns would help to bring the room together. You could add any colour but if you want to stick with mostly pale neutrals, adding some different textures would also help. Some artwork above the sofa would be good & also some greenery - maybe a large floorstanding plant.

Hi Sonika, you said you were looking for ways to bring more colour into your living room. Have you thought of sari material? Because of the way saris are coloured/patterned, a single sari could be cut up to cover several cushions, creating a very pretty multi-coloured array of cushions. Joy

You can follow the pattern and deepen with rich colours (like navy blue and burnt orange, purple and gold, fuchsia and turquoise, rust red and forest green) or simplify and go lighter and monochromatic

hi Marina I like the rug you suggested but I have a budget that I want to stick to ..I want to spend around £110 max ...also with the rug I would prefer something with a softer feel ...
Regarding the colour I was earlier thinned would go with a lighter rug as all the furniture in the room is quite dark..but the way you have showed the rug combination it is also looking great...
Now just need to find something within budget ..
Do you have any suggestions for a wall art/mirror that can go above the sofa wall ? I was earlier looking for abstract canvases in shades of navy and copper 140 cm wide but they are coming way too expensive for me ...
If you have any ideas/suggestions there ...

Have you looked at The Range? They have some lovely artwork at a fantastic price. Dunelm have a great range of cushions and rugs too. Worth a look?

If the rug follows or compliment the wallpaper pattern it’s not going to be busy, it would flow from the wall to the floor. If it clashed then it will create too many patterns and will be tiresome for the eye. Yo are not constricted with a colour right now just the pattern. What ever colour you choose for the rug can be complimented with cushions later.

I agree with the mute rug as too much pattern will look busy. I would go for plain navy blue and muted gold cushions. Plain cushions tend to cost less and cheaper ones can easily be found online. With the Amatista Rug or navy blue suggested by Celery girl - BTW your advice on rug size/placement is SPOT ON! I'm constantly telling my clients this, it makes such a huge impact to the space and is more comfortable also.

Wayfair also has great deals and sale items by the way. You can get great cheaper options on eBay - your paying for the brand with places like wayfair, made, heels etc.

Thinking about it, i more and more like the Manchester Blue rug. Also I think it would look good if you’d add a tall floor lamp on one side of the tv and a tall plant or planter on the other.

I think it is a bit too dark and colour blocked, but it can work with bolder and deeper accessories: cushions, art, plant pots, lamp. Will take away the attention from the wallpaper and will draw the eye to the bold items
