I would change the table to lengthways as well to align it directly under the two pendant lights. Move the sofa away from the wall it looks too shoved back. Put it so the front feet are over the rug to stop the rug ‘floating’. Also move The two chairs in from the window and maybe pop a round occasional table between them. for the kitchen I would paint the units all in the same colour as the media unit. Then you would not have to change the splashback, tiles or worktops. The long cupboard end looks imposing so blending the colour more will help it to visually disappear. find another place for the bin or a smaller bin. Nice space!

Hi Monica. The kitchen looks great. I'd go for a light grey on the walls, you could look at farrow and ball strong white or a darker grey such as cornforth white , both should work with the floor which has grey tones. Can you take more pics of the seating end and give dimensions? I'm just wondering if a small sofa would be better next to the kitchen units (broken up by a really tall plant) with a chair in the corner between the doors with a lamp behind? The compact sofa, chair (also comes in grey and yellow) and floor lamp are all m&s. I like Monica's idea of enamel pendants, these are by pooky. Will you be dressing the windows at all? I'd accessorise with lots of different textures and plants to get that scandi feel. I'd look at a mirror splashback which will also make the room feel wider, I like an antiqued effect for texture but you may prefer a plain one. If you're keeping the walls very light then a few accessories such as picture frames will work

What do you want to achieve from your design project and how does space come into it? Can you rethink the space to create a different effect or atmosphere? What do you like about your existing space and what needs to be changed? 3. What is the kitchen for? Thinking about the kitchen’s purpose is really important. Are you someone who likes to cook? When opting for a bespoke kitchen, the options are almost limitless. From wood species and finish, to countertop material and handles, different combinations create very different effects. If you’re opting for something more traditional, perhaps add some unusual handles to add a contemporary splash. Or if you’re thinking super modern with clean straight lines, maybe add a speckled splash back, or a tiled splashback to add some texture and contrast. 10. Finally, does this space suit you? With so many things to choose from, and so many pictures of designs on the internet, finding the right kitchen can be very overwhelming. Sometimes in an attempt to create something perfect and unique, you can loose track of what you actually want to achieve. You may like the idea of a wall mounted wooden wine rack or a multi tier cabinet just for your cereal, but if it doesn’t suit your lifestyle then why have it? At each stage of the decision making, take a step back and consider the feature in your everyday life. If you can’t visualise it, bin it. Thank you all for your constructive feedback so far - I appreciate it all and it has given me some food for thought. I particularly like @OnePlans suggestion of an open cloakroom/bench, but I do also agree with @Jen P that in practice it is likely to become messy. The response I am clinging on to most is @Jonathan ... "To be fair this hallway is 300mm wider than the hall in many houses". If this is the case then hopefully our dimensions are ok?? If the dimensions are reasonable, I would prefer not to reconfigure the rooms/walls, however your responses have made me think about maybe moving the bottom of the stairs back a bit from the front door and making the full length window beside the front door wider, which will hopefully let more light into the hall and at least make it feel more spacious. Here's what I have in mind... or alternatively try cantilever stairs which will let light into the deeper reaches of the hall... I welcome your thoughts.
