Help on bi-fold doors

Can anyone advice me on costs of different height bi-fold doors.

I'm building a house and plan to have a glazed gable.

I want to have bifold doors in the glazed gable.

My architect has drawn up two options for this (attached). The first has standard height doors with a section above, the second uses full hieght (floor to ceiling) bi-fold doors.

I think the second options looks better - but am building on a budget and concerned about the cost.

Does anyone have any experience with buying full-height bi-folds. Are the cost a lot more than normal bi-fold.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

When I bought some the bespoke size added about 25% to the cost.
Personally I like the look of the bifold height matching the windows in the house

Help to find mechanism to operate integral blinds in bi-folding doors

Hi Perrin out of interest is it a detachable cord that you attach by magnet to the top of each bifold door to operate the blinds & then detach & store in a cupboard? We saw these at the Ideal Home Show last year & ordered them when we purchased our bifold doors/windows. However, unfortunately when we returned home on installation day the wrong blinds had been fitted & we didn’t like the white strip down each pane. I’ve just paid the deposit to get the blinds changed to anthracite (to blend in better!) but am wondering if yours are what we had initially seen but could never source?!

I had hardwood bi-folds fitted last year and it took me ages to decide what to get. The reason I finally chose bi-folds was I use all my garden doors several times a day even in the winter and just opening the one section is easy and folds back neatly and doesn’t catch the wind as easily. There also have magnetic catches. And opening three sections is very neat and gives the biggest opening. However these openings are only two metres wide. Where I have a 2.4 opening I’ve got French windows and the 60cm doors fold back and hook onto the side windows well. Tbh bi-folds aren’t my favourite but they best suited the openings.

I think slim line sliding doors look more modern and you'll get more view of your garden. We were going to have bifolds but have now decided on sliding doors. Our opening is 4m and planning to have 3 doors. As your opening is quite large, you could have 3 door and once they are opened, you will still get a good size opening. We're having 35mm profiles but I think you can get even thinner ones. Are you have a flat roof or pitched roof?

We bought 6m x 2.4m section and it cost £6104 + vat and we also bought a 3m x 2.1m section and it cost me 3054 + vat. So in out case... it worked out prorata pretty much the same! I would defo go for the higher doors ... it makes such a big difference. We used Express Bifolds and Doors and I would highly recommend them. Very good customer service and aftercare.
