Comments (15)Trees can grow incredibly tall and wide 20 ft to 100 ft depending on the species. There aren’t any trees that grow just over 6 feet and no more, unless you try fruit trees that are grafted onto a dwarf rootstock which keeps them small. . However there are some lovel shrubs (multistemmed) that grow 6-10 feet high. You need to check aspect (sunny/shaded) as well as soil type. You can get a tester from garden centres for a couple of quid. You could try Viburnum tinus an evergreen with white or pink flowers in winter. There is Photinia which is also evergreen where the new growth is red and very pretty. Cotinus is deciduous and has lovely purple leaves and frothy flowers in summer.. Lilac (Syringa) is a large very well known shrub with fragrant flowers, although it does tend to spread. My favourite at the moment is Sambucus Black Lace (I’ve just bought one!) with gorgeous Lacey purple leaves and pink flowers. There are so many wonderful shrubs you can plant, but it depends how much time you want to spend tending your garden. The plants I’ve suggested are really easy to grow. I also like holly, but I detest laurel (sorry Jonathan!) - it’s the garden version of magnolia paint. Here’s some pics of my suggestions Sambucus Viburnum Cotinus (purple plant) Photinia...See MoreFinalizing our extension layout - last thoughts please?
Comments (75)Try looking on your local selling groups and Facebook marketplace as they come up all the time. People sell then when they get too big for their hours or when they move and they can’t be bothered to take them with them, ha ha. The new bathroom is still a shell :0( It’s been delayed because it’s now an internal room and we have been trying to work out about putting an outside window in ie cost (around £600!) vs is it worth it because it’s easy facing with a house opposite so gets no sun. Would always have to turn the light on - plus it would be above the shower so can’t open etc. Seems a lot of hastle! I have a separate thread on it somewhere... But anyway, we might create an internal window into the utility and borrow the light from the kitchen?? Not perfect but it’s some natural light at least. Will update the bathroom thread as need help with the shower anyway ;0)...See Moreflower ? plant? what is this beauty called please ?
Comments (9)I grow mine in pots, they like to be constrained and thrive when they struggle for space in pots. They multiply over the years and get better and better. The first year I only had one flower out of three pots! But as time has gone by they've slowly got more and more. I have two new pots of them though, just planted this year, which haven't flowered at all this year though. When they do finally get too pot bound they're easy to divide.........and you get more pots worth! They're stunning and make a real statement at this time of year....See MoreRibena Drinker
