Why is paint peeling?
Comments (21)Hello everyone, I too think it's a possible water issue but can't think what could be the cause. This wall is internal, not near any gutters, drains, roofs, etc. There's no bathroom above or near this space. We do, however have a small wetroom downstairs which is behind this wall but on the opposite side to where the damage is and it has not been used since installation as it's an extra shower room, so that can't be the cause. Also all the waste pipes flow in the opposite direction to the other side of the house. The only thing which is actually behind this space where the damage is, is a washing machine connected to the waste pipe on the back of the damaged wall...so unless its leaking drops and the walls absorbing it, causing the paint to peel/yellow I can't think of anything else... Thank you all once again for looking into my little problem. A x...See MoreHow would you use the space?
Comments (17)The spac look like a formal entrance hall but it doesn't really function as such because the entrance doors to both the kitchen and the lounge are both at the corner before you move into the space. How about you cancel those doors and instead open large double French doors in the middle of the hallway leading to the lounge, and a large opening leading to the kitchen. You can then place carefully picked furniture on the sides of those doors and turn the hall into a welcoming space. It will also help with the organisation of the kitchen. the current corner door in an obstacle. Another option is to take down the wall between the hall and lounge and create a much bigger lounge with doors to the kitchen. Comments (7)A very small amendment to Whizzywig's plan, as the Utility doesn't need to be quite that wide. However, obviously it's cheaper to leave the wall where it is than put in a support and move it. But, removing the entrance gives you a front to back view when coming in . As always everything depends on budget and drainage. I'd also, make the Conservatory bigger, remove the twin wall roof, replace with a proper roof with Roof Lantern for loads of light. You may need to improve the outside walls on the Conservatory too, as they most probably are not cavity. By opening up you need to ensure that the walls are adequately insulated or you will be very cold!...See Moreno shoe space in hallway
Comments (23)I cant see enough from your pic, what's the distance between the kitchen door and the reveal to the front door? is there enough space to build a series of shelves floor to an acceptable height, open ended and with a sweeping curve on the corner as you head from the front door into the kitchen? if enough space the shoes could be stacked on a separate shelf per pair maybe leave bottom ones with a bigger gap to allow for tall boots. I am looking at the area where the current matting goes around the boxing in part as you come in the door Hope this helps....See MoreJonathan
