Outdoor Uplighting

hi. can somebody please help me. I am trying to achieve the look in the enclosed pics for outdoor uplighting against the front of my property. But I am unsure firstly which lights I need to buy and secondly how closely to the property they should be installed. I have been looking at standard LED Ground lights but I am not sure if this will provide me with the desired look? thanks!

Comments (103)Thanks so much everyone - this has been great. Sorry for the lack of response - been flat out!!!! It must be hard for you American guys to work on such old English designs.... The ideas have gradually culminated into what really would look good on the house. Ourfarmhouse - these are absolutely great ideas, and thanks Everything Beautiful for getting the jist and putting the ideas onto the house image - nothing like seeing an actual design on your own home. We've got an architech working on it, and he's keen on the iron-wrought idea... but we're not sure. Basically toss-up with this and Everything Beautiful's design (2 above). Going with a four-pannel door, but would like to incorporate some glass somewhere! Possibly a panel above with the house name engraved on it?? Victoria - absolutely right...! We don't need to sit outside with the weather.......... say no more! Just wanting something to cover yourself while you're unlocking the door. We've also done a tour of the local areas, and found a couple of porches - amazing what you find right on your doorstep! Comments (32)You have worked hard and built the 'bones' of your garden but now it needs dressing. For me there aren't enough plants. I totally agree with the pyracantha/clematis idea at the bottom of the garden but I don't agree with more pots. Pots are actually quite labour intensive in the summer when they need watering regularly even if it rains. Hence I think shrubs/plants should be planted in the gravel which will still suppress the weeds and help retain moisture in the summer. I love the idea of planting only white flowers. They are visible longest in the twilight. Vita Sackville-West planted her famous white and silver garden in Sissinghurst Castle. I firmly believe that fences should be invisible and disappear. Lest the garden looks like it is in a box. They should not be painted a bright eye-catching colour but instead camouflaged with a drapery of ever changing foliage. Climbers can be trained to grow along the fences. Either on trellis the same colour as the fence, on wires or on each other as suggested before. You could even have a beautiful fan or espalier trained apple tree growing against whichever fence in the sunniest spot. If you can lose the fences your garden will appear larger because there will be no boundaries. Lastly as final touches Ithink the eye should be drawn to a feature in the bottom right-hand corner such as a statue or beautiful elegant tree such as a silver birch. Also you should consider garden lighting which will add another dimension and give you an outdoor living area in the summer. As spike lights feature an adjustable head for tilt and rotation this allows you full control of how you want the lighting to be shown, so you can showcase your favourite trees whilst at the same time provide some lighting for your garden too. A spike light may work well? Something like this;

Or maybe as Forzaitalia suggested, an up light or an up & down light;
Kenn Up and Down Light (available in a variety of finishes)
