Help with living room colour scheme
Comments (23)Thanks guys - some really helpful suggestions coming in! And I hope everyone's had a good Christmas. :) After talking with hubby some more, we've had a slight change of plan and decided not to go with the statement yellow wallpaper. We will still be going with the same colour scheme (mustard & grey with purple accents), but we will be painting the whole room in one colour (light grey or greige) and adding the mustard and purple with the soft furnishings and artwork. Now I'm a little stumped... having trouble imagining where the colours should come in exactly. I will list the items that will be in the room: - 1 sofa (ivory) - Gallery wall above sofa (family photos) - Sideboard which will have the TV on, and tall glass-door cabinet (both Ikea Hemnes grey-brown, which to me looks light brown) - 2 small tables either side of the sofa with lamps on - Large area rug - Hubby's desk and some floating wall shelves above that - Possibly a coffee table or ottoman - Some art (not much, it's a small room) and flowers/other greenery Now that the wallpaper is gone, the first thing I can think of that could bring in a large amount of yellow is the rug... or is it best to keep the rug a neutral colour too? Could anybody post examples of any rugs/artwork/accessories/lamps/side tables that you like and might go with my colour scheme? I am also posting some pictures of rooms that inspire me. Really struggling to envision this room! Thanks :-)...See MoreColour scheme dilemma

Comments (4)I think you can buy specific primers for melamine but a multi surface primer would also work, zinsser is excellent, I think it's zinsser B I N you need but check which one. If you're painting them you could fill the holes for new handles? I would personally use a pro though, melamine is obviously plastic so doesn't absorb anything so you want a good finish (I'm not doubting your painting skills btw as that sounds a bit rude, I suspect they're better than mine!). That's tricky with lights.. Can you see much in there? Ideally I would also add downlights and a pendant over the table but that's a seriously messy job as you'd need the ceiling reskimmed after. You could look at something like a spider light (obviously not one hanging as low as this, just adding pics of what I mean!) or maybe a multi arm light to disperse it in different directions? You can also buy multi outlet ceiling roses so then can have the light of your choice. You could potentially have a plug in to the left of the window. I don't suppose there's a socket by the table?!...See MoreColour Scheme in a Bright Bedroom
Comments (4)in that case, i'd go light on the walls and probably try to match the upper wall with the wardrobe and trim mint green / light turquoise ( http://inspiration.farrow-ball.com/itemdetails.aspx?id=26849) paint the desk light grey ( https://www.farrow-ball.com/paint-colours/dimpse) and add cute pulls i'd also hang a shelf above the bed and style it with amthyst rock, plants, small mirror, framed art. and i's also add astring of fairy lights above the desk or the bed. so the whole scheme would be: pale mint green / aqua / turquiose on the walls and curtains (or just a roman blind), green/grey desk and purple / amethyst / pink / gold accents in the accessories. with white and gold accents...See MoreSonia
